Weekly Bulletin

June 4 - June 8, 2018  |  Week 38

MESSAGE FROM BAA HEADMASTER, MS. CLARK

“Community with Social Responsibility" means having an ongoing commitment to the health of our community. You can't just hope that you remain healthy; you have to take active steps (watching what you eat, exercising, working on healthy ways to reduce stress, etc.) to support your health. Health isn't a permanent state of being. It's something you must continually work at and support.

We are explicitly working on the health of the BAA community in this last month of school. Last week the Class of 2019 spent some time talking about what they want for themselves, their class, and their school next year at BAA. In circles in seminar, our rising senior class shared their responses to these questions:

  • What do you need from your BAA community to most fully benefit and/or contribute to the BAA community?
  • What could you do to create spaces and opportunities for others in our community to be most fully themselves?
  • What could you do to create more space, more opportunity, more kindness in your life at BAA so that you can most fully be yourself?

The Emerging Leaders student group is continuing these conversations in advisory groupings in preparation for "This is who we are Week" 6/12-6/15.

The goal of "This is who we are Week" is to get the entire school community, for one week, to truly commit to collectively and purposefully working together to actively create the BAA we want our school to be.

Boston Arts Academy adults set expectations, but Boston Arts Academy students--their choices and their actions--are ultimately the culture of the school. I want to thank the Class of 2019 for their engagement in these discussions and the Emerging Leaders for their work. I look forward to all of our students fully engaging in the health of our community and practicing "Community with Social Responsibility" for the rest of June. As we go into a new school year, particularly as we join a new neighborhood and establish ourselves in a new school building, we all have a responsibility to make sure BAA is the school we want it to be.

Have a great week!

CONGRATULATIONS AND SHOUT OUTS

Congratulations Fashion majors! 6 fashion students presented in Boston Fashion Weeks “Open Runway”. Open runway is an opportunity for designers of any age and any level of experience to showcase their work. To say our students “brought it”, would be an understatement. They represented BAA with such poise and respect. They showed the Boston fashion community who they are as new designers. They presented alongside MASSArt, Bay State, School of Fashion, and established Boston designers. Thank you to Mr. S. Mendoza and parents who came out to show support. The future of fashion is, indeed, present at Boston Arts Academy.

Have someone(s) to congratulate or shout out? Please email Ms. Booth --> tbooth@bostonartsacademy.org (be sure to include name and reason for the shout out)
