MESSAGE FROM BAA HEADMASTER, MS. CLARK

Our fourth and final shared value is Vision with Integrity, and it's the one that sometimes is the most difficult for students to grasp. To me, the key is understanding what it means to have integrity. Integrity is usually defined two ways. You can understand integrity as having strong personal principles and values; synonyms are sincerity, decency, fairness. You can also understand integrity as "the state of being whole and undivided"; a work of art has integrity if all the parts work together, there is nothing missing and nothing extra.

Having a vision with integrity means having a vision (of what you want to do or who you want to be) that is solid and having a process to get there that is solid. When you have a vision with integrity you have a purpose and intention in mind, and you execute that intention all the way through: beginning, middle, and end.

When I say that BAA is a community that practices "vision with integrity," here is what I expect to see:

What Vision with Integrity looks like Inside the classroom/studio/rehearsal space:

  • Setting goals and consistently maintaining high standards towards those goals
  • Owning your process, your choices, and your behavior
  • Creative risk taking
  • Stretching yourself
  • Having a vision of where you want to go and who you want to be...and making daily choices to make that vision a reality

What Vision with Integrity looks like beyond the classroom: hallways, shared spaces, Cleveland complex, in the neighborhood:

  • Demonstrating integrity in your actions: honesty, decency, fairness, high standards for self and others
  • Understanding and representing the values of BAA
  • Upperclassmen mentoring underclassmen
  • Being welcoming to others: other BAA students, visitors, members of the CASH community
  • Being respectful of all adults in the Cleveland complex
  • Being part of a positive contribution to the Fields Corner neighborhood

Have a great week!

CONGRATULATIONS AND SHOUT-OUTS

Shout out to sophomores Syre Garcia and Jedidia Santana who presented to the Boston School Committee last Wednesday to advocate for changing the Boston Public School calendar from Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day starting next year.

Congratulations to Ms Polito and the fashion students for a stunning show at the Fashion on Fire event on Friday night. Students worked long hours to make this happen so early in the year, and the work paid off in a cohesive, well crafted, beautifully styled collection. Be sure to congratulate all of the Fashion Students and Ms Polito when you see them!

Have someone(s) to congratulate or shout out? Please email Ms. Booth --> tbooth@bostonartsacademy.org (be sure to include name and reason for the shout out)

*NEW* PSAT at Boston Arts Academy. Boston Arts Academy will administer the PSAT Exam on Saturday, October 13 beginning at 8:00 am. The PSAT is great preparation for the SAT. Taking the PSAT is also a way to practice and get familiar with the format of the SAT. Another reason for students to take the PSAT is that many scholarship sponsors offering scholarships to juniors ask for students to submit their PSAT scores.

Students can prepare for the PSAT by going to khanacademy.org where they can take PSAT practice tests. Students have already been registered for the PSAT and the fees have been paid by Boston Public Schools. To learn more about taking the PSAT go to collegeboard.org.

On test day BAA sophomores and juniors should arrive by 7:45am.

What to bring on test day:

Two No. 2 pencils

Graphing calculator

If you have questions contact Ms. Hairston at chairston@bostonartsacademy.org.
