Canvas: Adding Turnitin via External Tool* Video Tutorial
- Create a new assignment. Go to the Assignments tab and click “+” Assignment button.
- Configure the assignment Submission Type.
- Under Submission Type, select External Tool from the drop down menu.
- Click on the Find button to pop up a list of tools.
- Check: Load This Tool In A New Window. (This will allow the Canvas course window to remain open while opening the Turnitin assignment)
- Scroll down. Select Turnitin and click Select.
- The URL for Turnitin will appear in the text box.
- Decide the submission attempts.
- Decide all the remaining assignment details.
- Click Save or Save & Publish.
- Next, go back to “Assignments” in the course navigation and open the assignment you just created.
- Click on the gear icon (top right-hand side) to open the instructions box.
- A new window will open. Populate the fields (title, instructions, grade, start and due dates, etc.).
- Notice the gear icon on the bottom left. Click on Optional Settings to open a Submission settings. Select Submit papers to: “Standard paper repository” or click on the downward caret (⌄) for “Do not store submitted papers.”
- Don’t forget to click Submit.
*NOTE:
Instructor Guides
- External Tool is one (1) submission. All previous submissions will be overwritten. Framework states multiple submissions. To be specific, it is three (3). Each submission will generate its own Similarity Report. All previous submissions will be retained.
