June 11 - June 15, 2018  |  Week 39

MESSAGE FROM BAA HEADMASTER, MS. CLARK

Coretta Scott King once said that "[t]he greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members." To me, what she meant is that a community is made up of individual members, and it is the kind, caring, responsible actions of those individual members that make the overall community great. If individual members make individual commitments to compassion, the overall community will be strong.

This week is "This is Who We Are" week at BAA, and our intention is to have each individual member of our community focus on being kind, caring, and responsible. The Emerging Leaders student group, working from input from teachers and students, designed three focus points for each day: a conversation, commitments for teachers to make, and commitments for students to make.

On Tuesday, the value is Diversity with Respect. In advisory, the conversation will be about celebrating and seeing the strengths in our differences. Teaching are asked to allow homework handed in at the end of the day (3 o’clock) with full credit. Students are asked to make commitments such as being respectful to teachers and each other, complimenting someone who is different from them, taking selfies with people you don’t know, eliminating side conversations during instruction.

On Wednesday, the value is Community with Social Responsibility. In C block students will discuss what Community with Social Responsibility should look like at BAA. Teachers will be focusing on meeting all students needs in the classroom. Students are asked to make commitments such as being calm in the hallways, committing to no drama for the day, making a point to be on time for every class.

On Thursday, the value is Passion with Balance. In F block students will discuss what Passion with Balance should look like at BAA. Staff will be conducting wellness activities during lunch block. Teachers are asked not to assign homework. Students are asked to make commitments such as not using cell phones inappropriately during class and assigning themselves wellness homework (like exercising).

On Friday, the value is Vision with Integrity, and it’s a day of positive attitudes. In Advisory, students will discuss what integrity means and looks like: honesty, decency, fairness, high standards for self and others. Teachers will focus on hands-on activities in class. Students are asked to fully participate in class and share positive attitudes with everyone on this day.

I’m looking forward to seeing the commitment this week...and I’ll be looking for students to shout out! Students, please come find me this week if you see someone doing an excellent job embodying our shared values.

And have a great week!

CONGRATULATIONS AND SHOUT OUTS

Shout out to the Theatre Department for their production of “Ruined”.
