Weekly Bulletin

April 22 - April 26, 2019  |  Week 31

MESSAGE FROM BAA HEADMASTER, MS. CLARK

Welcome back, everyone, from April Vacation! We are excited to welcome families for family conferences this week. At Boston Arts Academy, we believe that families are important partners in students' success, and we appreciate the time and effort families expend to participate in these important conversations.

Students, please know that the goal is for you to lead the conversation about your learning. The reason that you get your narratives in advance of the conferences is because we want you to have the opportunity to reflect and to plan. More important than your teachers identifying your strengths and challenges is your ability to do so for yourself. My hope is that you will take advantage of narrative conferences as an important reflection opportunity.

Have a great week!

CONGRATULATIONS AND SHOUT OUTS

Congratulations to Ms. Tiblanc and the Visual Arts and Fashion Tech majors who collaborated on a successful opening of the student show Objects of Affection just before April break in the pop up exhibition space on the second floor. Visual Arts exhibition students started with 3D pieces built in cigar boxes that were focused on the theme of self love, and then invited the upper house fashion majors to collaborate. Fashion students also created their own cigar box pieces and then the groups of students created fashion looks built off the themes of their boxes. Congratulations: Cam'ron Brimage, Eric Chu, Reina Donis, Edileusa Gomes, Jaylah Gulley, Cleefton Jean, Ryan Lewis, Leilani Lopez, Ideal Lobo Mason, Yairy Matos Medina.

Congratulations to Liat Rimoni on her acceptance to the 2019 Boston University Summer Theatre Institute!

A big congratulations to Mr. Barrington Edwards, who is this year's recipient of the Educator Alumni Award from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Every year, all the state universities select an alum who best exemplifies excellence in education, and this year Mr. Edwards is representing MassArt! Be sure to congratulate him if you see him.

Congratulations to Ms. Tighe, the Theatre Department, and senior theatre majors for this year's Senior Showcase. The two pieces that they performed (including an original play written by Christian Kinney) demonstrated strong ensemble work, strong writing, and strong production work - both onstage and behind the scenes. Great job everyone!

Congratulations to Djenabou Sow who was awarded the Vertex Science Leaders Scholarship at the University of Massachusetts!

Congratulations to Ms. Kerl who received an Elliot Norton Award nomination for "Outstanding Design" for her work on "Dark Room" at the Bridge Rep Theatre.
