Weekly Bulletin

June 10 - June 14, 2019  |  Week 38

MESSAGE FROM BAA HEADMASTER, MS. CLARK

As we enter the final weeks of school, advisors will be reaching out to families to schedule RICO reviews. RICO reviews will be Monday, June 17th and Tuesday, June 18th. Juniors need to schedule their RICO reviews on Monday, June 17th as the must be completed before the Step Up ceremony that afternoon.

Our habits of the graduate---refine, invent, connect, and own--are meant to describe the habits that students should be developing as they develop as Artist-Scholar-Citizens. Students review their work from the year and ask themselves where they have demonstrated their growth in their RICO skills. It's an assessment--but not one that's about reviewing grades. And we are proud to have families join us in these RICO reviews. Our goal is for students to lead the RICO reviews with their self reflection.

Students, when you look to see where you have demonstrated refine, ask questions such as: Where I have revised work to make it better? What have I assessed and addressed strengths and weaknesses? When you look for invent ask: Where have I created work that is unique or creative? When you look for connect ask: Where have I found connections between ideas? Or where have I connected my work to a larger context? And when you look for own ask: Where have I really accepted challenges and made them my own? What work makes me most proud? We want you to own your process, and the reflection supported by RICO reviews is an important part of that.

Have a great week!

CONGRATULATIONS AND SHOUT OUTS

Congratulations to the Humanities 2 Team and Humanities 2 students on their civic engagement projects and exhibitions these last few weeks! All through the month of May, there were participants in the Walk for Peace, facilitated community forums, donation drives, and the creation of all types of art. It was great to see students' passions turned into authentic learning experiences.

Congratulations to our newly inducted National Honor Society members! Callie Demos, Leanne Dioneda, Laren England,  Nalany Guerrier, Carlos Hernandez, Asmani Huda, Maggie Reichgott, Adliz Santana, Daija Siguenza, Saraphym Wright. These students have maintained high grades in arts and academics and also collectively completed more than 600 hours of service!

Congratulations to Ms. Lee, the music department, and our pianists on an excellent piano recital last week. Students performed with a high level of technique and thoughtful artistic interpretation, most of whom did so from memory. Nicely done, everyone!

Shout out to the Dance Department and all dance majors for their excellent informal dance showing last week. The strength and precision displayed by the lower house, paired with the performance quality and professionalism of the upper house promises much to look forward to.

Congratulations to Mr. ADEkoje and the film students for a fantastic showing at the Boston Arts Academy Film Festival last week. The festival featured films from many genres, including: documentary, music video, sci fi, and rom com. The quality of the work was very strong, with a synthesis of compelling artistic vision, editing, sound and storytelling.
