Rules and Regulations for Mobility Impaired Vehicle Access to Bosque del Oso State Wildlife Area

Keep these rules for your records.

The following rules and regulations are necessary to ensure public safety, to avoid habitat and road damage, and to provide a quality hunting experience to all hunters accessing the property.

Notification to District Wildlife Manager or Wildlife Technician:

You must call DWM Bob Holder (719)680-1410 or Technician Dylan Thomsen (719)792-2232 prior to accessing the property to notify him of your hunt details. It is your responsibility to understand which parts of the property you are allowed to access.

Accompanying assistant:

  1. If you choose to have an assistant, you must be accompanied by only one assistant. If you are approved for the “Aid to track/dispatch” accommodation, your assistant may track and dispatch your wounded game on your behalf. Your assistant must have a valid hunter education card and must not be suspended from hunting.
  2. The use of a vehicle to access the hunting area is only for the permitted individual for the purpose of hunting. The assistant may use the vehicle only to assist with game care, dispatch, and removal. Access to the area by the assistant for the purpose of hunting (to fill the assistant’s license) shall be by foot or horseback only. Transporting other hunters and/or their game is strictly prohibited.

Gates:

  1. When entering and exiting the property, it is your responsibility to secure the gates. Always leave gates as you found them.

Vehicle Restrictions:

  1. Travel Times (Windows of time your vehicle can be in motion to enter and exit):

Your vehicle is restricted to certain times it can be in motion. Note that these times are for you to enter and exit the property and not to drive the property in search of game. Frequent vehicle movement, including trips in and out of the area and loud noises (slamming car doors, loud radios) interferes with other hunters’ experiences and affects the presence of animals in the area. Access to the property for scouting purposes is prohibited. In the event of a medical emergency, you may travel out of the property at any time.

  1. Orange magnetic 10” x 10” decals will be mailed with your permit. You are required to affix them on your vehicle when you access this property and you must remove them when exiting the property. The decals are only for your use and may not be given to anyone else. It is your responsibility to return the decals to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, ATTN: Tracy Gripp, 6060 Broadway, Denver, CO 80216.
  2. This accommodation does not grant permission to drive off-road to hunt or to retrieve your game. Driving off established roads creates serious wildlife habitat damage. During snowstorms, rainstorms, or when the roads are wet, you are not allowed vehicle access to the property due to safety concerns and the need to minimize damage to the roads.
  3. Hunting Area
On those roads that are not gated, the above time restrictions would not apply. Please review the
Bosque del Oso SWA packet on the CPW website (as referenced in your successful notification letter) for safety concerns on roads and methane well sites and for those roads that may be closed during inclement weather.

All access points/canyons would be allowed but please specify daily to either DWM Holder or Technician Thomsen what entry point would be utilized. This allows for appropriate law enforcement response should indication of vehicle traffic behind closed gates be reported by methane employees or other hunters.

NOTE: Failure to comply with the vehicle access stipulations is a violation of Regulation No. 002.F (“License Types and Requirements”), 2 CCR 406-02. “Any person who is authorized to hunt, fish or trap wildlife in Colorado pursuant to a permit issued by Colorado Parks and Wildlife shall comply with all of the terms and conditions of that permit.” Failure to comply with the stipulations may result in a wildlife citation and/or revocation of your accommodation.
