Last Week’s Highlights

              Last Wednesday the Poetry Out Loud competition took place in the auditorium from 9:45 to 11:30 am.  Congrats to all the Finalists!

              Last Wednesday the 5th there was a Rotary Club meeting at lunch in room 51 at lunch. The meeting was pertaining to the rotary talent show being planned.

            Last Tuesday, February 4, the grading window was open.  This means that progress reports and grade reports came out last week.  

           Last Friday the 7th, Dance club had a meeting after school in the auditorium at 3:15.

            Attention Softball Players:  Tryouts for softball begin 2/10 at 3:15 on the varsity field.  You must have all necessary paperwork turned in and cleared by Mrs. Chase in order to tryout and play.  If you are not playing a winter sport, we are currently conditioning for the upcoming season, however, you must be cleared to participate.  Any questions, contact Penny Long, Debbie Leonard, or Tony Williams.

            There will be a brief meeting for all new and returning members of the MCHS Choir in the auditorium on Monday, February 10th from 12:25 - 12:45. Students of all singing experience levels are welcome to stop by, get more information, and sign up. If you're interested in choir but can't make it to the meeting, please email Mr. Trump at ktrump@mcusd.org

            The California Scholarship Federation (CSF) eligibility lists for the Spring semester have been posted outside the Counseling Office. If you wish to join, please submit an application and your dues ($5.00) to the Counseling Office NO LATER than February 13th. There are NO exceptions to this deadline. (If payment is a problem, please see Ms. Rider). Please stop by the Counseling Office with any questions.

            Seniors, if you’re thinking about attending Merced College in the Fall, it’s time to register. Sign up now to reserve your spot. Registering for Merced College now does not obligate you to attend in the fall, it just means you’ll have priority when selecting your classes if you decide to attend. Merced College classes fill up quickly so you want to register now to reserve your priority spot. Sign up by Wednesday, February 12th, in the counseling office.

            The Academic Boosters Club is hosting 2 Career Lunches in February. The 1st will be on 2/13 with Mariposa County Auditor Luis Mercado. The 2nd Career Lunch will be with MCHS and UC Merced graduate Tyler Shaddix who is a software developer and the Chief Product Officer at GoGuardian. Sign up for Career Lunches in the counseling office. Lunch is FREE for the first 30 students who sign up.

Choose from psychology, environmental science, bioengineering, and many more. Sign up in the counseling office now. The deadline to signup is Thursday, 2/13.

  • Make sure to fill out your Senior Point Payment forms if needed and turn them into JJ Ogilby in the attendance office. You can pay with credit or debit online through mchsclassof2020.weebly.com. Just go to the Senior Trip Tab and click Payment. However, through this form of payment, you will only be able to pay for either half or the whole cost of the Grad Bash Trip.

  • Spring Sees Candy sales will start at the end of February. Be sure to keep an ear out for more information!

ASB NEWS

  • 8th grade visit will be happening on February 28th and ASB will be getting the incoming Freshmen class excited while showing them all MCHS has to offer.

FFA

  • 3 FFA points are required every semester for students enrolled in agricultural classes. These points can be obtained with any extra FFA activities, attending FFA meetings, and helping out at the meetings.
  • Remember, anyone who wants to show next year at Fair must have 80% attendance at FFA meetings throughout the year.
  • February 12th is the Tulare Farm Show.
  • February 18th is the AG expo at Mes.
  • February 19this the Ag Expo at Woodland.

ADMINISTRATIVE NEWS

  • Junior Parking Lot REMINDER: Students are not allowed to park in spaces designated for district office vehicles. If you park in one of these 8 designated spaces, your vehicle will be subject to being towed.
  • Parking is first-come, first-serve. If all student parking spaces are filled, you should park in the overflow lot near the bus turn-around.

  • Students under the age of 18 who are employed must have a current work permit on file with the school and their employer.  Please see Ms. JJ in the student services office for a work permit if you need one.
