Minutes – Parks & Recreation Committee Meeting - 8/7/17

- Reviewed and approved minutes from July meeting
- Reviewed Borough Manager’s Report
- Peco not awarding grant in 2017/2018; may re-apply in 2019
- DCNR grant passed initial review, in Harrisburg for potential award Nov 2017
- Financial update reviewed
- Mowing
- Excessive growth due to high rains. Committee recommends 3 cuts/month through year-end. Re-examine contract & ability to make adjustment (Sam)
- Discussed mowing between new trail and Keeley and if Parks mowing is sufficient
- ~10-12 ash trees (dying); need Doylestown approval and drier weather to schedule
- Tom investigated availability of white pines and confirmed price with Highland Hill Nursery
- Tom investigated crab apple to replace removed traditional apple in flag lot
- Discussed variety for disease-resistance and complimentary to existing trees
- Lori supplied update on planning and progress
- 9/15-9/17; committee discussed how to communicate to residents and survey/feedback opportunities
- Sewage smell – occasional complaints researched by Doylestown. No cause found
- Spotted Lantern Fly – newly introduced destructive insect; reviewed issue with committee
- Communication from seasonal skating rink company discussed
- Committee felt shopping center would be an ideal spot to consider
