Helpful Questions for Parents

While at school, every student will have the opportunity to be involved in many different activities through their academics, co-curricular clubs and sports, volunteering, Boarding and free time. When talking to your child about how she is doing, she may just focus on one area or only share the most recent experiences that have been keeping her the busiest.

Here are some sample guiding questions that you can ask to ensure that you are hearing more about her full Branksome Hall experience. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the Director of Boarding.

All of these questions can begin with, “Tell me about…” “Describe to me…” or “Explain to me…”

What is an interesting assignment that you have enjoyed completing recently? Is there a recent assessment that you are particularly proud of?

How do you prefer to study and complete your homework in the Boarding house? Do you like to study with your classmates in the common room?

What has been the focus of your recent school assemblies or Advisor meetings?

Are you sharing right now or do you want there to be action?

What was the best part of your day?

How are you volunteering at the school and in your community?

What is the current focus or goal for your school clubs or sports team?

Which Boarding activities or excursions have you been participating in? Do you have a favourite activity so far or one that you are looking forward to?

How are you staying physically active? Do you like to exercise in the Fitness Centre?

What is your favourite meal or snack in the Boarding house?

Which special holiday dinner has been your favourite so far? Or is there one that you are looking forward to?
