Buffalo Academy of Science families,
As of April 20th, 2020 we will be entering the 4th marking period and want to take a moment to review our learning expectations for students. In accordance with the requirements set forth by the New York State Department of Education, students will be provided continuity of instruction based on the following guidelines:
- Teachers will provide a recorded video lesson and one response question for students to answer at the start of the week.
- Students will be assigned one independent assignment or learning activity based on the video lesson.
- Math, ELA, Social Studies, & Science teachers will hold 1 live learning session for students each week, they will summarize their lessons, assignments, and students are encouraged to join and ask questions.
- Students will be assigned a second independent assignment or learning activity.
- Students will be assigned one benchmark project, criteria outlined by the teacher.
All classes will have grades entered for the 4th quarter, grading for the 4th quarter will follow the guidelines below.
- Students will receive 1 weekly participation grade based on responding to the video lesson and attending the live learning session(s).
- Students will receive 2 weekly assignment grades.
- Students will receive 1 benchmark grade.
- Students are allowed to submit work for a grade at any time during online instruction.
- If school resumes prior to the end of the year, students with missing assignments during the 4th quarter will be allowed to make them up for full credit prior to the close of the quarter.
Students are encouraged to participate in all online learning opportunities, watching and responding to the video lessons, completing assignments, and attending the live learning sessions with their teacher.
