Weekly Bulletin

May 20 - May 24, 2019  |  Week 35

MESSAGE FROM BAA HEADMASTER, MS. CLARK

This week is the last week of regular classes for seniors, and it ends with a very important tradition: roll call assemblies by major.

When we founded Boston Arts Academy 20 years ago, we wanted to create a school where each student was known well. Our goal as a community is for each individual's strengths, gifts, and potential to be recognized. To create this kind of community, we created an advisory system, where students stay in the same grouping with the same adult for four years. We also created majors, where students are grouped by a common artistic passion and have the opportunity to build a smaller community within the larger school community.

During roll call assemblies on Friday, students will gather in their majors to hear each advisor speak about each graduating senior. It's a very powerful moment for the seniors, but it's also powerful for the other students, as they hear a little bit about each student who has contributed so much to our community and is now moving on to the next adventure.

Enjoy the roll call assemblies, don't forget your tissues, and have a great week!

CONGRATULATIONS AND SHOUT OUTS

Congratulations to the Music Department, Jazz Instrumentalists, and Jazz Vocalists on last week’s successful concert at Berklee. The performances showcased student’s skills, risk taking, and musicality. Great job everyone!

Congratulations to the Opera Scenes and Treble Choir Ensembles for a truly inspiring performance last Thursday evening. Alexandria Funches and Thalia Delvalle delivered extremely polished and heartfelt Sr. Recital pieces, all soloists filled the hall with confident sound, and each ensemble really pulled together to make me super proud! Thank you for your hard work! - Ms. Rivelli.

Congratulations to Ms. Tighe, Mr. Gibbons and the Lower House Theatre students for a very impressive show, Facing our Truth. As Juan Sepulveda (Assistant Director) put it: it [was] a show of many firsts: first Lower House Mainstage play, first time freshmen are performing in a mainstage, first time for many of the sophomores in the play as well, and Juan's first time as Assistant Director. The ten minute plays were performed with a great deal of heart, passion and deep empathy. The work was powerful and the performances were as well.

Have someone(s) to congratulate or shout out? Please email Ms. Booth --> tbooth@bostonartsacademy.org (be sure to include name and reason for the shout out)
