Organizational Tools, Lost & Found, Messages & Telephone Use

Organizational skills play an important role in academic success at Branksome Hall. Students are encouraged to use the following resources to organize their studies and belongings while at school:

Lockers

Each student on the east campus is provided with a locker. She is responsible for purchasing her own lock and may do so in The Shop. Grade 7–8 lockers are located in the Middle School, while those for students in Grades 9–12 are located in 10 Elm Avenue. Students must keep their lockers locked at all times.

Valuables

Money, valuables, personal items of significance or large sums of money should not be brought to school. Laptops should be locked in lockers, when not in use for class. Money and valuables should not be left unattended (e.g., in bookbags) at any time. The Code of Conduct restricts the wearing of jewellery.

Personal Electronic Devices

Cell phones and mobile devices should not be seen during class time, unless the teacher has specifically requested their use or they are part of a student’s Learning Strategies Plan. Students may use personal devices before and after school. Grade 9–12 students may use their devices between classes and during lunch.

Calculators

All students in Grades 9–12 will need to have a Texas Instruments TI-84+ calculator with them in every Math class. Students should purchase their calculators independently before the start of the school year.

Lost and Found

Students are expected to check for misplaced items in the various Lost and Found locations: Rotunda (10 Elm Avenue), Middle School Main Floor (lockers next to M4), AWC Cubbies, and AWC Pool Change Room Lockers. It is essential that all uniform items, athletics clothing and equipment, lunch bags and textbooks be labelled. At the end of each term, any items not collected will be discarded or donated.

Messages and Telephone Use

Parents are discouraged from texting or calling their daughter during the school day. Reception will pass messages along to students on behalf of parents.

Messages for students in Grades 7–12 will be emailed to the student’s school email address. In an emergency, a staff member will visit the student’s classroom or call her out of class. Students may also use the telephone in the Senior School Main Office, if needed. Middle School students can use the phone in the Middle School Office, if necessary.

For incoming calls, the switchboard is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please use the automated line (416-920-6265) to leave messages at any time for teachers and staff on the school’s voice mail system.
