Weekly Bulletin

March 5 - March 9, 2018  |  Week 26

MESSAGE FROM BAA HEADMASTER, MS. CLARK

I want to congratulate the sophomore music majors who completed their sophomore benchmarks just before February vacation. Benchmarks are important milestones in BAA's students' education.

A benchmark is an assessment that represents a set of skills or knowledge outcomes required for advancement. Students must meet the minimum score on the rubric benchmark to go to the next course and/or to qualify for graduation. In addition to benchmarks in the arts, there are a few academic benchmarks as well. Juniors complete the Humanities 3 benchmark, a research paper requirement. Juniors are now working on their Senior Grant benchmark, our community service/arts capstone experience.

Our philosophy behind benchmarks is that students should be very clear on both the standard and on the work they need to do to meet that standard. We want to make sure that students are mastering the skills and content they need, even if it takes more than one try to get there. This philosophy is different from a traditional grade system, where students might go on to the next class with a very low grade, missing some of the skills they need to be successful at the next level.

Congratulations to the sophomore music majors again! And have a great week!
