Pride Tickets are Back!

By: Katie Abarca

Lathrop’s Pride Tickets are back!  What are Pride Tickets? A Pride Ticket is a form of positive recognition that teachers provide to students. Students can earn Pride Tickets different ways. For example, if a teacher sees students on task and following directions they may choose to give the student a Pride Ticket to show that the student is doing great. Teachers will most likely give Pride Tickets to students when they are RESPONSIBLE, RESPECTFUL and SAFE. DSC01313.JPG

What can students do with Pride Tickets? Students can use their Pride Tickets at the Spartan Store. The Student Store has items including school supplies, front of the line lunch passes, stickers, small toys, and other donations.  The Student Store will be located in the commons.  No food will be allowed inside, so finish your lunch before you visit the store.

Lathrop sports have begun!  Co-ed flag football and co-ed volleyball is in full swing with practices and scrimmage games on campus.  Mr.  Alexander, flag football coach, says he  likes being a coach because “sports are a positive opportunity to know the kids outside of class.” Mr Alexander says his team is doing well. He likes the fact that they have a good representation of different grade levels and even a good number of girls.

When asked if he ever gets tired of coaching and teaching at the same time, his response was, “ If I said no, I would be lying,  but I enjoy being around the kids.”  Mr Alexander says he looks forward to his team’s character, good sportsmanship, and whether they win or lose, it’s all about  how they carry themselves.

Ms. Sullivan is a  science and AVID teacher as well as the volleyball coach.  She has been a coach for 4 years now and enjoys both teaching and science.  Ms. Sullivan says she likes being a coach because “it is fun, rewarding, and she loves seeing the [students] build their skills, confidence and friendships.”  Ms. Sullivan said the team works on building basic skills every practice and the girls work with each other as a team.FullSizeR.jpg

By: Betty Guevera

Miss Mulholland, Cal Poly Pomona graduate,  said that her first day at Lathrop was “nerve wrecking and exciting,” but the Lathrop staff has been very supportive.  When students walk in her class they should be expected to be challenged and will always have to be thinking.  What she likes best about teaching is to getting to know her students, watching students find out what they are good at, and seeing that students are able to pursue their passion and as long as they work for it.  Miss Mulholland also loves seeing that her students are excited to learn, seeing what her students

Miss Mulholland explained that she thinks teaching is a awesome career because she can impact thousands of students’ lives.  However, if she were not a teacher, she said she would like to be a biologist.
