Parks & Recreation Committee

Minutes for our fourth meeting:

March 5 at 7:30 in New Borough Hall  

Next meeting April 2, 2014

Attending:  Lori Kesilman, Lorraine Brutschea, Tess LaMontange, Derek MacMillan, Andrea Antell, Gwen Preston-Yamamoto, Peter LaMontange

Absent: Chris Stanford, Ed Glasgow

 Committee Organization:

• Derek is chair
• Lori is secretary
• We meet on first Wednesdays of the month

First Topic: Covered Bridge Park and Bike Trail

1. The Borough received a grant in the amount of $150,000 to put a trail/sidewalk from Tamenend Ave. to Pine Run School along Butler Avenue.  Chris wants to discuss options for this grant, so that a decision could be made for the best use of the money.  

• We want to discuss options to get part of this done this year, and keep the rest next year.
• Chris - Before next meeting, could you please ask about the easements.  We would like to discuss.  
• Chris  - Can we put off some of the grant money until 2015?
• Robin - Can we ask Goodman Properties if they will help us put a bike path across their property at Towne Center Shopping Center
• Robin - Could you email us some info about these grants.  What is being done and are we already committed to doing each of these.  Could you sent the grant applications?  

• Greenways Trails
• CMAQ
• Destination Peace Valley
• Neshaminy Greenways
• Delaware Valley College

2. Peter & Tess shared walkway design

• We like the design and want the railing for the walkway and lip on the edge.

• Cost is about $1,451

• Robin is going to talk to Doylestown Borough about the walkway to make sure we are OK

3. Groups will share images for sign and come to a decision.

• We have some good ideas that we will share with Ed.

Second Topic: Trail to Pine Run from Tamenend Ave - Lori will discuss conversation she had with Robin and Chris regarding budget and grants

• Borough will contact people for easements.  Has this been done?

Third Topic: Discussed Budget - What is the annual budget?  Derek reported that our budget is $5,000.  

• Robin - How much are we paying the lawnmowers?  What type of contract do we have?  How much do we pay for each time?  How often did they mow?  How much did we spent last year.  We would like to discuss this at the next meeting.

Homework:  

• Andrea - will discuss handicapped accessible rules in the park and if the entrance to the walkway.
