About This Resource

The team at Edhesive understands that, due to the spread of COVID-19, some of the schools that use our curriculum have had to temporarily close their campus or are experiencing limited attendance. Edhesive’s online curriculum is well-suited to off-campus learning, and our team is dedicated to ensuring that you and your students continue to enjoy the highest level of support while working remotely!

This resource takes existing support resources and places them into the context of facilitating the course off-campus in order to help everyone easily find the information that they need. Furthermore, it is designed to be shared and used by schools, students, and their parents. To ease communications between all parties, this resource is in a singular location that is easy to navigate and share, ensuring that everyone has access to the same help info.

Navigating and Finding Info

This resource is broken up into sections for:

Each of these sections contains a series of questions that we anticipate will come up while trying to get set up to continue with Edhesive courses off-campus. The table of contents at the beginning will give you an idea of what kind of info is in this guide. You can also use your browser's "Find" function (usually found under the toolbar under "Edit">"Find") to search on the page.

Help for Schools

The information below is broken into sections that contain FAQs for teachers and administrators. If you need further assistance with any of these topics, email support@edhesive.com for help.

Where to go for Help

I'm having a technical issue. Can someone help me?

Yes–Edhesive support is here to help! For technical support, there are a few ways that you can find assistance:

I have a curricular question. How do I get help?

The Edhesive forums are the best place to get help with any questions about the curriculum. This is where our TA team is on duty and can answer questions about assignments or other curricular topics. If you haven’t set up your Teacher Forum account yet, click here for instructions. You can read more about the forums in this section of the Help Center.

Getting Set Up and Other Technical Info

What info do parents need to get their students set up to work off-campus?

Each course has a dedicated technical requirements page in the Help Center, which are linked below. These pages can be shared with parents to help them with setting up off-campus.

Can students use tablets or smartphones to do their work?

Tablets (including iPads) and smartphones are not ideal for our courses regardless of the browser being used. The platform used for the courses is not fully supported on mobile browsers so features may not function as expected compared to viewing the course in a fully supported desktop or laptop browser.

A workaround for tablets and smartphones that can be useful for those who may be sharing devices off-campus and need to be able to complete some of the work on a tablet or smartphone is to watch the videos on these devices and then complete the coding work on a desktop or laptop when it is available.

Do we need to tell parents to whitelist sites to make the course function off-campus?

No, this should not be a concern since school networks tend to have more restrictions in place for security reasons than home or shared networks do. If any parents do need this, the whitelisting info can be found in the technical requirements pages.

What software might parents need to install on any off-campus computers that their child is using?

The courses are web-based, with no additional installations for any of them. Please ensure that your child is using the most up-to-date browser, but otherwise all of the coursework can be done within the Edhesive platform!

Our students use school-owned Microsoft Office applications for some of their work but not all of them have access to this off-campus. Can you provide an alternative that they can use?

There are many free document editors available for students to use off-campus. We recommend using Google Docs Editors, which has alternatives for MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Students may then submit any necessary work by downloading the files as Microsoft files, or by sharing the link to the document with their teacher.

Communicating in the Course Platform

Our students cannot access their school email while off-campus. Is there a way we can tell them to contact their teacher(s) through the course platform?

Yes, they can use the Inbox feature in the course platform to send messages back and forth with their teacher(s). This feature is found in the left-hand side navigation menu.

Can we give our students' parents access to the course?

Yes, our support team can set them up with Observer accounts that will give them view-only access to their child's grades and work as well as the course content. To set this up, please email support@edhesive.com with the following info, which we will use to create an account and password for the parent(s):

Facilitating Courses Off-Campus

Are the courses available offline?

There are not offline versions of these courses available; however, there are offline versions of most assignments and assessments that can be distributed as needed. To see if a course item has an offline version, please check the Teacher Sidebar for that item. These versions can be downloaded and emailed to parents and/or students, if needed.

Can we have parents print the assessments, have their child complete them, and send teachers the grades?

Yes, they can absolutely do this! Just follow the instructions in the previous question and ask the parents to send the teacher their child's results or grades.

How do teachers enter grades for offline work?

Teachers should follow the instructions found in this article in the Help Center to ensure that students' grades are entered in a way that allows them to move forward in the class. These instructions also include how to add a place in the gradebook for new offline items that the teacher may be adding to help supplement work while off-campus.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams

Are there any changes taking place for the AP exams?

For the most up-to-date information on changes to the AP exams due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it is best to reach out to College Board directly. Their dedicated page for info on these updates can be found here.

Help for Parents

The information below is broken into sections that contain FAQs for parents of students who use Edhesive's curriculum at school. If you need further assistance with any of these topics, email support@edhesive.com for help.

Where to go for Help

My child is having a technical issue. Can someone help us?

Yes–Edhesive support is here to help, including helping parents! For technical support–especially since parents do not have the same access as teachers or school administrators–it will be best to email the Support Team at support@edhesive.com if you need any help.

Since we will not have your information in our database, please be sure to include the following info so we can find your child's account and their course, as well as any info about the issue:

My child needs help with the coursework. How do they get help?

The Edhesive forums are the best place to get help with any questions about the curriculum. This is where our TA team is on duty and can answer questions about assignments or other curricular topics. Your student has probably already set up their forum account and should know how to log in and use the forum. If they have not set up their account, please have them read through and follow the instructions on the "Student Forum" page located in the very first unit of their course.

Access and Technical Issues

Can I access my Edhesive course from a non-school location?

Since Edhesive courses are web-based, you won’t have any trouble accessing your classes outside of school! Simply log in as you normally would:

  1. Open a browser window.
  2. Go to edhesive.com/users/sign_in
  3. Use the same way you normally log into Edhesive at school (for example, enter your username/email and password, click "Log in with Google", or click "Log in with Clever") and enter your login credentials.

I'm having a technical issue. Can someone help me?

Yes–Edhesive support is here to help, including helping students! For technical support, it will be best to email the Support Team at support@edhesive.com if you need any help.

To help us help you, please be sure to include the following info, as well as any info about the issue, so we can find your account and course:

I need help with the coursework. How do I get help?

The Edhesive forums are the best place to get help with any questions about the curriculum. This is where our TA team is on duty and can answer questions about assignments or other curricular topics. You may have already set up your forum account. If you have not, please read through and follow the instructions on the "Student Forum" page located in the very first unit of your course.

Issues with Logging In and Passwords

What if I have trouble logging into my Edhesive account?

If you have any trouble logging into your Edhesive account, email support@edhesive.com for help. When emailing support, make sure to include:

  1. Your school's name
  2. Your teacher's name
  3. The email address or username you usually use to log in
  4. The course you are taking

Do I need access to my school email account to log into my Edhesive account?

No, you do not need off-campus access to your school email account in order to use that email address to log into your Edhesive account. The only time you should need access to your school email address in order to access your Edhesive account is if you need to change your password. Otherwise, you are good-to-go!

I have trouble remembering my password and am worried I'll forget it while off-campus.

We’ve got you covered! We have included a place in the printable version of this document where you can write down your username and password to reference while off-campus. Simply click the link at the top of this section (or click here) to download and print.

I didn't write down my login credentials and don't remember my password. How do I change it?

In this case, it is always best to change your password instead of trying to guess what it is because if you enter the wrong password too many times, you may be temporarily locked out.

To change your password, click the "Forgot your password?" link on the login page (or click here). This is found after all of the login buttons. Please note that you need to be able to access the email address that you use to log in in order to receive an email with a password reset link.

I need to change my password but can't access my school email address off-campus. How do I do this?

If you need to change your password and don't have access to your school email while off-campus, just email support@edhesive.com and we’ll help you out!

It says I am locked out of my account! What do I do?

If you get a message saying you are locked out of your account, this means you have entered the wrong password too many times. Please email support@edhesive.com following the instructions in the earlier question regarding asking our support team to change your password for you.
