There are 2 levels of permissions for your Seller Portal Account:
The Account Owner has full administrative rights and access to the Seller Portal. Only the Account Owner can access and edit certain sections of the Account Settings and details (see Rights and Permissions below). The Account Owner is created with the registration of the account but can be changed later.
The Account Owner can add up to 9 Additional Users. Users have full access to the account and able to perform all operational tasks (creating shipments, catalogue etc.). Users have limited access to sections of the Account Settings and can only view and update specific fields (see Rights & Permissions below).
The Account Owner will set most information upon registration. Other details, such as Seller ID, will be set by the system.
IMPORTANT: certain information can only be changed by requesting this from takealot.com and is subject to review. Only the Account Owner may submit change requests e.g. business details change requests. Only requests that are deemed valid will be granted. The Primary Contact is NOT a separate user. One of the email addresses, whether it is the Account Owner or an Additional User, will be nominated to be the Primary Contact. This email address will receive the day-to-day communications (see list of examples below) as well as all major communications.
The only other user to receive communications is the Account Owner. This email address will receive communications relating to all major developments and updates that may impact operational structures or procedures within your business.
Refer to the matrix below to see the possible communication combinations:
Account Owner | Additional User | |

The Primary Contact will be set automatically to the Account Owner during registration. Once registration has been completed, any Additional User can be nominated to be the Primary Contact. This can be updated at any time.
Refer to the table below for examples of the types of communications that can be expected:

Your account can be set to the following statuses:
Active: once all registration information has been completed, your account will be in an active state. Active accounts will become eligible for Subscription Fees as soon as the first product has been added to the account. Please note: it does not matter whether or not the product is active, inactive or archived. As soon as it is added to your account, your account is eligible.
Active accounts have access to all Marketplace services.
Inactive: an account can be made inactive by clicking on Stop Selling on Takealot on the Overview section of the Account Settings page. You may click on this button at any time to close your account. The account will not be deleted or removed and you are able to access and reinstate at any time using the same button - which will show as Start Selling on Takealot.
When closing your account, there are certain steps that will need to be completed. These will be communicated to you once you click on the Stop Selling button. Subscription fees will not be charged in the month following the account cancellation.
Suspended: accounts are only suspended by the Takealot Compliance Team and may be due to reasons such as violations of our policies, investigations into account activities etc. When an account is suspended it will not incur Subscription Fees but functionality across the Seller Portal will be limited.
Our Compliance Team will reach out with regards to any reason for suspending your account and include corrective instructions or advise on a process of appeal to reinstate your account.
All funds will be frozen during this time.

Wherever you find that you are NOT able to update a field, you will need to reach out to Seller Support to request these updates. Some fields will have the following added to indicate this:

I am not the rightful Account Owner, what should I do?
If Account Registration is complete and you have full access to the Seller Portal, navigate to the Users tab of the Account Settings and create an Additional User with the details of the rightful Account Owner. Once created, set the user as the Account Owner.
If Account Registration is incomplete, you will need to share your login details with the rightful Account Owner to complete the information. Once registration is complete, follow the steps above.
Can Takealot edit my banking details?
No. The Account Owner will be required to set the banking details upon registration. Thereafter, the account owner is able to update the banking details. However, they will be required to upload a new debit order form which Takealot will check to ensure the details match.
Can Takealot change the account owner of my account?
No. The current Account Owner will need to add an Additional User and then set the user to Account Owner via the Users tab.
Can I have 2 Account Owners?
No. Only 1 user can be set to the Account Owner.
Can I have 2 Primary Contacts?
No. Only 1 user can be nominated as the Primary Contact.
I want more users/individuals to receive the Day-to-Day (operational) communications?
We will only send these communications to the Primary Contact. The best way to achieve this is via your email platform/service provider. Examples of what you can consider:
The above will need to be implemented and managed by your organisation. Takealot cannot assist in the troubleshooting or management of your email inbox.
What can an Additional User do?
Additional Users can perform all the functions required to run the account i.e. create shipments, upload invoices, submit catalogue etc. They are only limited in the viewing and/or changing of details in the Account Settings section of the Seller Portal.
What happens if I make someone else the Account Owner of my account?
The current Account Owner will become an Additional User and his/her permissions will drop to that of all other Additional Users.
How do I remove a user?
As Account Owner, you are able to add and remove users via the Users tab.
I do not have a BEE status. What should I do?
This is not a requirement to sell on takealot.com. You are welcome to select “Non-compliant” to proceed.
