Destroyer: Advanced Class

Description

“Settle by the fire at our camp, and I will tell you of the Foremost who rose among us when I was young, decades ago. I heard them speak when I was your age, their voices rising and falling as if with the beating of mine own heart, and that of all the crowd that heard them. I felt tears roll freely down my cheeks for the sheer joy of being alive in that moment! The Foremost chose the voice of the Destroyer, speaking from their training, their calling in life. That night, our Foremost would meet their destined weapon upon the field of battle, a relic with a bond to our Foremost that called to them by name, first in their dreaming, then in their waking hours.

Woe to our enemy in this fight! For this relic was trapped by the very hands of the general who met the Foremost on the field!

I watched that victorious moment, when the Foremost collected that precious relic from their enemy’s cold hand, and with a great cry of battlejoy, ran the enemy through, forcing his last breath! That battle was glorious, as I know tomorrow’s will be! For the heart of the Destroyer beats in our chests since that night, with the teaching of our Foremost echoing down through our generations.

Who knows? Perhaps one of you may yet rise as the Foremost to unite our people once again.”

Destroyer Innate Powers

Battlejoy [Innate]

Requirement: Destroyer Level 1

Incantation: None

Call: None

Target: Self                                        Duration: Short Rest

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: Short Rest

Accent: None                                        Effect: Grant

The Destroyer lives for the Battlejoy that is the state of duende. It is an ecstatic harmony of violence, death, and mindfulness, allowing the Destroyer to leave behind all fears, all hopes, all need for survival, and live in the infinitesimal moment.

Getting to the state of duende is not a trivial matter, however. There are criteria that the Destroyer must meet in order to find this state. When the character first becomes a Destroyer, they must choose whether they find their focus while reveling in glory, through the State of Triumph, or when things seem at their darkest, via the State of Determination. This choice cannot be altered later, so choose wisely.

The Destroyer may use Battlejoy once per Destroyer class-level per Long Rest and all must be true.

State of Triumph

State of Determination

Note: Seeing the same ally fall multiple times will not help achieve the State of Determination.

While in BattleJoy:

Striding Storm [Innate]

Requirement: Destroyer Level 2

Incantation: None

Call: None

Target: Self                                        Duration: Passive

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: None

Accent: None                                        Effect: Special

The destroyer has furthered their ability to reach deeper states of duende, evoking more of their battlefield dominance. This allows the Destroyer to further shrug off effects that would leave lesser combatants unable to fight.

While in BattleJoy:

Unbound Breaker [Innate]

Requirement: Destroyer Level 4

Incantation: None

Call: None

Target: Self                                        Duration: Passive

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: None

Accent: None                                        Effect: Special

Tapping into the essence of what it means to be a Destroyer, the will of the Unbound Breaker confers further strength of arms and mind in the midst of battle.

While in BattleJoy:

Relic Weapon [Innate]

Requirement: Destroyer Level 5

Incantation: None

Call: Special

Target: Special                                        Duration: Permanent

Delivery: Special                                Refresh: None

Accent: Special                                        Effect: Special

Once the Destroyer has reached their pinnacle of advancement, they can perform the ritual known as the Relic Finding.

This ritual may be personal to the Destroyer (and should be designed by the player) and sometimes, the ritual causes the weapon to appear, and other times gives the Destroyer information about the location of an existing weapon (this would lead to a quest: a mod or series of mods that would be dependent on Staff and may require an expenditure of Service Points in addition to taking this Power).

The Relic Weapon will be a weapon of immense power, and can take one of two forms, depending on the character of the Destroyer (it is up to the Destroyer’s player as to which Blade is received). The weapon can be of any type and form specified by the Destroyer and will be attuned to the Destroyer. If the character does the Relic Finding without an attunement slot open, one other item of the Destroyer’s choice will be automatically un-attuned. If the ritual summons the weapon, it can arrive in any way Staff desires, from simply appearing, to being delivered by an otherworldly messenger, to simply being present after a Long Rest.

The two types of weapons are the Redeeming Blade and the Avenging Blade. Both kinds of weapons have the following benefits while attuned:

The Redeeming Blade has the following additional properties:

The Avenging Blade has the following additional properties:

Destroyer Class Skills

Favored Weapon [Class Skill] - 3 CP

Requirement: Destroyer Level 1

Incantation: None

Call: None

Target: Self                                        Duration: Passive

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: None

Accent: None                                        Effect: None

The Destroyer chooses a single weapon type with which they are proficient from the types listed below and that kind of weapon becomes the Destroyer’s “Favored Weapon.”

The Favored Weapon is not a specific weapon, but simply a type of weapon that the Destroyer most strongly connects with. The Destroyer may only ever have one Favored Weapon type. The Destroyer can purchase the Skill “Weapon Specialization” with that weapon type without a CP cost, and since characters are only allowed one Weapon Specialization, the Destroyer can either claim that as a Favored Weapon (and refund the 4 CP for that Skill), or choose a different Favored Weapon, but be unable to take the Weapon Specialization.

The Destroyer may choose from
Mace, Flail, Axe, Great Sword, Great Mace, Great Axe, or Polearm.

Moment’s Rest [Class] - 1 CP

Requirement: Destroyer Level 2

Incantation: Focus Quick 100

Call: “Heal 3”

Target: Self                                        Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: Short Rest

Accent: None                                        Effect: Heal

The Destroyer can heal themself for 3 points of damage with a short breather.

Harness Joy [Class] - 2 CP

Requirement: Destroyer Level 3

Incantation: None

Call: None

Target: Self                                        Duration: Short Rest

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: Short Rest

Accent: None                                        Effect: None

While in a State caused by Battlejoy, the Destroyer can stretch beyond their normal limits. While in Battlejoy, they may choose to increase their Stacking maximum by one in either Maximum Spikes, Spike Damage Bonus, or the Maximum Barrier they may have. This increase lasts until they leave the Battlejoy state. The Destroyer may only have one of these bonuses at a time, and never duplicated.

Double the Joy [Class Skill] - 2 CP

Requirement: Destroyer Level 5

Incantation: None

Call: None

Target: Individual                                Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: Weapon                                Refresh: Immediate

Accent: None                                        Effect: None

While in a State caused by Battlejoy, the Destroyer may spend two Spikes on a single swing adding their Spike Damage twice.  For example, if the Destroyer normally has +3 Spike Damage and a base damage of 2, if the Destroyer spends two Spikes and uses Double the Joy the Destroyer would be able to swing for 8 damage.

Destroyer Utility Powers

Analyze Weapon [Utility]

Incantation: RP: Focus Slow 60

Call: None

Target: Weapon                                        Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: Touch                                        Refresh: Immediate

Accent: None                                        Effect: None

The Destroyer can examine a weapon and determine its properties with the same level of detail as many diviners. The player can read in full the info card associated with any weapon. The Destroyer gains Lore: Weapons, Lore: Battle, and Lore: Tactics.

Destroyer’s Battlemind [Utility]

Incantation: None

Call: None

Target: Self                                        Duration: Passive

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: None

Accent: None                                        Effect: None

The Destroyer gains +1 Base Maximum Spikes. If the Destroyer has the Battlemind Fighter Basic Power, they may expend it to refresh all Spikes instantly, instead of its normal function.

Higher Gear [Utility]

Incantation: None

Call: None

Target: Self                                        Duration: Passive

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: None

Accent: None                                        Effect: None

The Destroyer can enter the Battlejoy from either State and need not choose between State of Determination or State of Triumph. The Destroyer may still only gain the State once at any given time.

Spiritual Conduit [Utility]

Incantation: None

Call: None

Target: Self                                        Duration: Special

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: Event

Accent: None                                        Effect: Grant Life

The Destroyer can, while in Spirit Form, break the restrictions of being a Spirit enough to proffer their weapon to others. If another person touches the offered weapon, the Destroyer’s Spirit can pause on their journey to the Spirit Well and speak to that person. The Destroyer must stop moving while speaking and once the weapon is no longer touched, must return to the normal restrictions of no eye contact and no communication until they reach the Spirit Well.

Note: The proffered weapon can not be taken and will remain insubstantial.

Once per Event, if the proffered weapon is of the Favored Weapon type, and the Destroyer hears another character say “Through this conduit I bid you return to us” from someone touching their weapon, they are immediately returned to life with 1 Life Point and their weapon takes a Shatter Final Effect.

Tools of the Trade [Utility]

Requirement: Favored Weapon (Axes, Maces, or Polearm)

Incantation: None

Call: None

Target: Self                                        Duration: Passive

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: None

Accent: None                                        Effect: None

The Destroyer may gain the Skills from one of the following depending on their Favored Weapon type:

Note: If they already have one or both of the granted skills, the CP cost of that skill(s) is returned.

Weapon Bond [Utility]

Incantation: None

Call: None

Target: Self                                        Duration: Passive

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: None

Accent: None                                        Effect: None

The Destroyer can use the “Weapon Bond” Arcane Ritual, found at the end of this Class, even if they do not have the requisite skills to do so. They are, however, bound by the rules and processes of Arcane Ritual Casting.

Weaponsmith [Utility]

Incantation: None

Call: “Rebuild”

Target: Weapon                                        Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: Touch                                        Refresh: Short Rest

Accent: None                                        Effect: Rebuild

The Destroyer has studied the ins and outs of the tools of death enough that they can produce them.

The Destroyer gains the Apprentice Tinkering (3) skill, and the ability below:

Upon completing a Short Rest, the Destroyer may Rebuild a single Weapon they are holding. The appropriate Call for this effect is “Rebuild Weapon.”

In addition, while Tinkering on a weapon, they can reduce the cost of any work they do by one Basic, or Uncommon Resource of their choosing, to a minimum of one.

Destroyer Basic Powers

Dismember [Basic]

Incantation: None

Call: “Shatter Corpse”

Target: Individual (Corpse)                        Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: Weapon                                Refresh: Short Rest

Accent: None                                        Effect: Shatter

After the Destroyer has used the Execute Power on a creature, they can follow up by using this Power on that same creature. If the Destroyer’s Favored Weapon is an axe, they also gain the Execute Power when they take this Power if they did not already have it:

Execute

Incantation: None

Call: “Death to Helpless”

Target: Helpless Individual                        Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: Weapon                                Refresh: Immediate

Accent: None                                        Effect: Death

Instead of doing a Death Blow, the character can instead use Execute to instantly kill a Helpless creature.

Joyous Smite [Basic] (3)

Incantation: None

Call: “Wounding [X]

Target: Individual                                Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: Weapon                                Refresh: Short Rest

Accent: None                                        Effect: Wounding

The Destroyer, while in a state of Battlejoy, can make one melee attack that will do Wounding damage equal to her Base Damage plus three. If the Character is wielding a Great Weapon and no other weapons or shields, the damage is equal to her Base Damage plus Spike Damage plus three.

Pain for Pain [Basic]

Incantation: None

Call: None

Target: Individual                                Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: Weapon                                Refresh: Immediate

Accent: None                                        Effect: Grant Damage Bonus

Hearing their friends and allies suffer at the hands of others gives the Destroyer that extra added inspiration. Whenever the Destroyer hears an opponent make a Call that includes the “Piercing” Effect, their next damaging attack is granted a +1 bonus to damage. If the Destroyer is wielding a great weapon, this bonus is +2 instead.

If the Destroyer makes a damaging attack and does not Call the extra damage, it is wasted, and multiple “Piercing” Effects will not add together for more damage or more enhanced blows.

For Example: If the Destroyer hears twelve Piercing Effects used by opponents, only their next damaging attack is enhanced with the +1 bonus to damage.

Destroyer Advanced Powers

Breech [Advanced]

Incantation: Focus Quick 30

Call: “Insubstantial”, “Cure Insubstantial to Insubstantial”

Target: Self                                        Duration: Slow 10 Count

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: Short Rest

Accent: None                                        Effect: Grant Insubstantial, Slow, Cure

After a moment’s focus (Quick 30) the character can cause themself to go insubstantial for a Slow Count of 10. During this time, although insubstantial, the character is also slowed. The Power is often used to get past enemy lines, especially through tight, guarded doorways. While the character is insubstantial, they need to be very careful not to push past others, especially given the limited duration of the Power. At the end of the Count, they should call “Cure Insubstantial”.

Destroyer Parry [Advanced]

Incantation: None

Call: “Counter, Parry”

Target: Self                                        Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: Short Rest

Accent: None                                        Effect: Counter

While wielding a weapon or shield, a character may use Parry Blow to Counter any Melee Weapon-Delivered attack, by calling “Counter, Parry.”

Destroyer SMASH [Advanced]

Incantation: None

Call: “Wounding [X]”

Target: Individual                                Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: Weapon                                Refresh: Focus Quick 100

Accent: None                                        Effect: Wounding

The Destroyer, while in a state of Battlejoy, can make one melee attack that will do Wounding damage equal to her Base Damage plus two. If the Character is wielding a Great Weapon and no other weapons or shields, the damage is equal to her Base Damage plus three. The Destroyer may add Spike Damage to this attack by spending a Spike.

I Alone [Advanced] (2)

Incantation: A sword-salute and clear indication of the chosen single opponent.

Call: None

Target: Self                                        Duration: Special

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: Short Rest

Accent: None                                        Effect: Taunt, Counter

If the Destroyer is in a one-on-one situation such as a tournament, duel, or last stand against the leader of the enemies, they may immediately trigger Battlejoy. This special Battlejoy is the State of Competition and is broken if the Destroyer becomes Helpless, completes a Short Rest, is joined by an ally (i.e. if anyone other than the Destroyer attacks the Destroyer’s enemy), or takes down the targeted enemy.

This Power is not limited by the Destroyer’s maximum number of Battlejoy uses per Long Rest and does not count as a use of Battlejoy. While in this special Battlejoy, the Destroyer can use “Taunt 5” as a Weapon Delivered attack on the chosen opponent once, can use “Counter, Parry” once to Counter a Weapon attack made by the chosen opponent, and may Counter Verbal and Voice Powers used by that chosen opponent by expending a Spike.

Note: The Destroyer doesn't get any of the properties of the State of Triumph or the State of Determination while in the State of Competition.

Slay [Advanced]

Incantation: None

Call: “...to [Enemy Type]”

Target: Self                                        Duration: Long Rest

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: Event

Accent: None                                        Effect: Grant Bonus Damage

Once per Event, the Destroyer may focus on one particular Type of enemy. This can be any of the following:

Until the Destroyer completes a Long Rest, the Destroyer may add the Qualifier “to [Enemy Type]” to a basic weapon attack to add +1 Base Damage.

Trigger [Advanced]

Incantation: “We shall triumph!”, or “We shall not fall!”

Call: None

Target: Self                                        Duration: Special

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: Long Rest

Accent: None                                        Effect: None

The Destroyer can force themselves into the Battlejoy without meeting any of the normal requirements for their chosen State. This is demanding, however, and once they leave the Battlejoy they are inherently Drained until they complete a Short Rest. This is still governed by the normal limit of one Battlejoy per Destroyer class-level per Long Rest.

Destroyer Veteran Powers

At the Knees [Veteran] (2)

Incantation: None

Call: “Disable Both Legs”

Target: Individual                                Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: Weapon                                Refresh: Short Rest

Accent: None                                        Effect: Disable, Refresh

While wielding a great weapon or axe, a character can strike at the legs of an opponent to do “Disable Both Legs.” If the Destroyer believes they struck an actual leg (and it was not blocked, for example), the Power immediately refreshes even if a defense is called. Remember to use caution when swinging at the legs.

Break the Wall [Veteran]

Incantation: None

Call: “Shield-Breaking” or “Shatter Shield”

Target: Shield or Individual                        Duration: Special

Delivery: Weapon                                Refresh: Short Rest

Accent: None                                        Effect: Shield-Breaking, Shatter

Once used, the Destroyer may, at-will, call Shield-Breaking until they have completed a Short Rest or have shattered (using Shield-Breaking) a shield or other object (such as a door). These Shield-Breaking attacks need not be consecutive.

If the character is using a great weapon or mace, this Power will allow the Destroyer to expend Spikes to do the “Shatter Shield” or “Shatter Door” Effect if they hit a shield or door. If the shield or door does not break, the Power’s duration does not end. Either way, the Power ends once a shield or door is broken or the character completes a Short Rest.

Beat Back [Veteran]

Incantation: None

Call: “Short Repel”

Target: Individual                                Duration: Short Rest

Delivery: Weapon                                Refresh: Short Rest

Accent: None                                        Effect: Repel, Refresh

The Destroyer can make three consecutive Weapon attacks that cause the targets to stay away from them for a short time. If the weapon being used is of the Destroyer’s Favored Weapon type, this becomes five consecutive attacks. If the Destroyer makes an attack without the “Short Repel” Call, any additional consecutive attacks are lost.  Upon entering a state of Battlejoy this power refreshes.

Greatparry [Veteran]

Incantation: None

Call: “Counter, Parry” or “Counter, Spellparry!”

Target: Self                                                Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: None                                                Refresh: Short Rest

Accent: None                                                Effect: Counter

While wielding a great weapon, a character may use Greatparry to Counter any Weapon-Delivered melee attack, by calling “Counter, Parry.”  Or, while wielding a great weapon, the character may Counter any Packet attack that hits the weapon itself. To do this, the Destroyer should Call “Counter, Spellparry!” when the Packet is blocked.

Impervious to Pain [Veteran]

Incantation: None

Call: “Resist”

Target: Self                                        Duration: Passive

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: None

Accent: None                                        Effect: Grant Resistance

Normally, any strikes that hit a character’s hand while the hand is on a weapon are ignored. The Destroyer has learned to inure their arms to the pain and damage of strong attacks. Any arm that is holding a weapon is resistant to melee Weapon Damage (including accented Weapon Damage) that is neither Wounding nor Piercing.

Last Warrior Standing [Veteran]

Incantation: Any cry of defiance.

Call: “Heal to full, Cure all Conditions, Mend armor to full”

Target: Self                                        Duration: Special

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: Immediate

Accent: None                                        Effect: Heal, Cure, Mend

If the Destroyer believes themself to be the last member of their allies in a given combat (minimum of four allies downed), to still be up, they may immediately trigger Battlejoy.

Upon triggering the Battlejoy, the Destroyer will Heal to full Life Points, Mend their armor to full, and may Cure all Conditions currently on their person. In addition, while in the State of Desperation, the Destroyer gains +10 Maximum Life points but upon reaching 0 Life Points, they immediately die and begin their discorporation Count.

This special Battlejoy is the State of Desperation and is broken if the Destroyer dies, is rendered Helpless, completes a Short Rest, or takes down the last enemy they know about. This Power is still limited by the Destroyer’s maximum number of Battlejoy uses per Long Rest.

Note: If the Destroyer is still negative, or at zero, when the State ends, they fall and begin bleeding out as per normal.

Note: The Destroyer doesn't get any of the properties of the State of Triumph or the State of Determination while in the State of Desperation.

Learn from the Enemy [Veteran]

Incantation: None

Call: None

Target: Self                                        Duration: None

Delivery: None                                        Refresh: None

Accent: None                                        Effect: Grant Power

The Destroyer may choose one Basic or Advanced Rogue Power that has a Weapon Delivery or a Target of Self and take it as a Destroyer Veteran Power. If the Power has a “from behind” requirement, that requirement can be ignored.

Wristwrap [Veteran]

Incantation: None

Call: “Disarm [Right Arm/Left Arm]”

Target: Individual                                Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: Weapon (Flail)                                Refresh: Immediate

Accent: None                                        Effect: Disarm

While wielding a flail, the Destroyer can make an attack that uses the “Disarm [Right Arm/Left Arm]” Effect by expending a Spike. This cannot be triggered on an arm that holds a shield.

Unrelenting Hammer [Veteran] (3)

Incantation: None

Call: “10” or “Wounding 5”

Target: Individual                                Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: Weapon                                Refresh: Short Rest

Accent: None                                        Effect: None

While wielding a great weapon or a mace, a character can make three consecutive attacks that do 10 damage. The Destroyer may expend a Spike to instead do four consecutive attacks that do Wounding 5. These calls may not be altered.

Destroyer Rituals

Weapon Bond [Arcane Journeyman Ritual]

Required Components: 1 Life Point, 1 Attuned Weapon, Foundation Resource - Tempus, Foundation Resource - Firmament

Ritualists: 1

Total Participants: 1

Expiration: Standard (1 Year)

Targets: Individual, Weapon

Tools Used: Ritual dagger, blood

Location: At the Forge

Other Requirements: None

Dark Territory Suit: Arms

Dark Territory Marshal Required: No

Effect: This ritual will be cast on a person and an attuned weapon of theirs. It will create a magical bond between the two so that if the item is ever destroyed or lost, it will return to the bonded owner in a week’s time, fully repaired and rebuilt. If the attunement ends, the ritual’s effects also end.

Note: A given weapon may only be bonded to one person, and each person may only have one bonded weapon.

Ritual Process:

First, the Primary Ritualist must create an arcane matrix around the weapon, consisting of the elements of Tempus, Death, and Firmament. This is to represent that the item is bonded for time immemorial: until the end it will be protected.

The Primary Ritualist holds the item in place and runs the hand of the attuned owner along it, cutting into their flesh [doing at least one Life Point of damage], and lets their blood drip onto the item. If the weapon has no sharp edges or points, a ritual dagger may be used to cut the hand, so that its blood may be dripped onto the weapon.

The two Foundation Resources are then poured, one after another, over the wound, to drip down onto the item. The ritualist will incant “Until the end of all things, let this magic link these two together as one.”

Finally, the Primary Ritualist must state aloud, “Let the ritual be complete.”
