DEADLINES & FEES

Registration closes at 11:59 PM on Monday, Sep 24.
Entries not paid by this date will be dropped.

Deadline to drop is 11:59 PM, Friday, Sep 28.
Drops after this deadline will be responsible for paying the late drop fee incurred by the team, $25, as well as their share of the hotel cost.

You may freely change events until Friday, October 19, so long as it does not result in a change of entry fees.

ENTRY FEES:  

SPEECH:$30 per partner, per entry.
DEBATE:$60 per partner, per entry.

TRAVEL FEES:

HOTEL:  TBA (Around $100 - $150).

ENTRY LIMITS

You may enter up to three speech events, but no more than two per pattern, AND a maximum of one debate. Entry in both speech and debate is possible, but at your own risk, as you may forfeit if one of the events is running behind.

Up to three students in each division may attempt Triathlon (triple-entry in speech events). Debate entries do not count toward triathlon

NOVICE DIVISION ELIGIBILITY

SPEECH: You must meet ALL of the following

1. You are in your first year (defined as two semesters) of high school individual event competition AND
2. You have not placed third or higher in the same or a similar event two or more times in any division.

DEBATE: You must meet ONE of the following

1. Be a Freshman or Sophomore OR
2. Be a Junior or Senior without competitive experience prior to the current academic year.

A Novice division competitor competing with a Open division partner must be entered in Open division.

SPECIAL EVENT RULES:
RADIO BROADCASTING

This is the only tournament we attend that offers Radio Broadcasting. Unlike other events, students do not actually compete in Broadcasting live at the tournament, but rather they submit a recording:

Contestants prepare a 4 to 5 minute news broadcast involving current events, domestic affairs, international affairs, business news, sports, or entertainment news. All or one of these areas may be included in the broadcast. Contestants will be judged on content, creativity, delivery, and production quality (i.e. free from distracting background noises).

We can submit a maximum of 4 entries for this event.

TRAVEL OVERVIEW

We will be carpooling to and from the tournament. 

NOTE: Unlike previous years, speech and debate will be travelling together on Friday morning. This means that all competitors will be missing classes on Friday, Oct 26. Do not call the school office; Mr Thomsen will excuse all of you from classes. You should, however, let your teachers know and see if there’s any make up work you can do over the weekend (there will be plenty of downtime).

We will arrive at the hotel before check-in. Usually the hotel has been accommodating enough to allow us to drop bags off early in one or two rooms.

JUDGE REQUIREMENTS

Anyone over the age of 21 is eligible to come as a judge. Judges will also act as chaperones at the hotel and tournament, and will assist in transportation of students to UOP, therefore we prefer that your judge be able to drive.

Chaperones will be required to stay overnight with us at the hotel. If for some reason this is not possible, email me to discuss the issue.
