Secondary Needs Assessment
At Beverly High School, we are proud that we have consistently communicated and innovated to keep students engaged in their high school experience. We recognize that we need to develop consistent and effective strategies to develop further student success and participation.
We recognize that our work is never done and that as a learning community we continually strive to incorporate innovative instructional practices.
Both the 2019-2020 and 2020-21 school years have brought about new challenges. As a district we recognize that the effects of the global pandemic have brought to light the need to meet students’ needs in unique ways. We discovered that some of our students thrive in the remote setting while others struggle to stay connected and make effective progress.
As a leadership team we recognize that disruption can have significant positive effects:
During the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school terms, the school worked on expanding staff capacity to improve student success. In particular, the areas of curriculum and instruction and equitable learning opportunities were focused on.

Engaged Learning: Equal Access for All Students – Inclusive practice refers to the instructional and behavioral strategies that improve academic and social-emotional outcomes for all students, with and without disabilities, in general education settings. The high school will continue to train and support staff in their expertise in social emotional learning and community engagement.

Rigorous and Consistent Curriculum: Curriculum & Grading Review - Over the next three years, the Beverly Public Schools will work with administrators and teachers to improve curriculum alignment, instructional strategies, student support and assessment methods in Literacy, Mathematics, and College and Career Readiness Skills. The high school will build its capacities to improve and inform instruction through data analysis and multi-tiered instruction. |
Innovative Practices - Beverly Public Schools PreK-12 student learning is supported through innovative, personalized learning strategies that address their distinct learning needs. The high school will expand career learning opportunities and provide further opportunities and access for students in honors and Advanced Placement courses through the use of strategies such as co-teaching, project based learning and civic engagement.

BPS Strategic Objective/Initiative: Culturally Responsive Teaching
Building Objectives: Beverly High School will utilize Social Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies both through targeted school wide programming and teacher use of Universal Design for Learning strategies embedded across all content areas to support student transitions and engagement in school.
Instructional Change Strategies: Teachers will implement appropriate SEL strategies in the classroom while the school as a whole reviews school structures and protocols for effective student support.
