Canvas: Adding Turnitin Framework*

1. Create a new assignment. Go to the Assignments tab and click  “+” Assignment button.

2. Name your assignment, add content, and point selections. Next,  under Submission Type,  click on the downward caret and select Online.

1. Select Text Entry and/or File Uploads.

3. Make sure to review all your assignment settings before scrolling down to “Plagiarism Review” on the left side.  (Note: If you did not select Text Entry and/or File Uploads in Step 2, the Plagiarism Review box will not appear!)

1.  Click on the downward caret.

4. Select Turnitin Framework  from the drop down menu.

5. The Turnitin Framework window will open. Select your settings

(there is more on this menu - scroll down to review all!)

6. Add the ETS e-rater report (Similarity Report). Make sure to scroll down further and select it from the drop-down menu. Select “ETS handbook” choice(s)  and  “Categories enabled by default”(review all choices: spelling, grammar, usage, etc.).

7. The system defaults to show students the similarity report immediately. If you would like to change this, click on the downward caret for other selections.

8. Add a rubric? It is easy to add a rubric AFTER the assignment is created. Go back to the assignment link, open the assignment and look toward the bottom.

• IMPORTANT: FINDING THE ETS e-rater Report (Similarity Report)

FACULTY: Once ETS e-rater is enabled, and after students have submitted their assignments. There are two ways to find the ETS e-rater Report (Similarity Report):

1.  Go to the Grades link in the course navigation. Look for the colored flag in the Gradebook  column next to each student’s name. Click on the directional arrow and proceed to Speedgrader.

1. A colored percentage flag will appear on the right-hand side   based on the similarity score ranges . Click on the percentage flag in Speedgrader to open the ETS e-rater report (Similarity Report).

2. Go to the Assignment link, select the actual Turnitin framework assignment then click on the Speedgrader link follow 1a.

STUDENTS:  Go to the Grades link. Aside from the grades, students will see a colored banner/flag. Click on it and Canvas will bring them to the Turnitin Feedback Studio.

HINT: To open the ETS e-rater report (Similarity Report)  look right and click on the purple icon labeled ETS.

* NOTE: 

• When using Turnitin Framework: group assignments are available and the similarity report automatically defaults to immediate view for students. Three submissions are permitted. Each submission has its own Similarity Report. All previous submissions will be retained. NOTE: Review “Difference between Framework and External Tool” below↴ ).

• How to allow students to view the Similarity report?  

• Do not use Student View (“SV”) for Turnitin assignment testing. SV is a random account with no valid email address and therefore cannot be tested.
• Add Turnitin as an External Tool.

1. Matrix states Framework has multiple submissions. To be specific, it is three (3). Each submission will generate its own Similarity Report. All previous submissions will be retained. External Tool is one (1) submission. All previous submissions will be overwritten.
