MINUTES OF NEW BRITAIN BOROUGH SHADE TREE COMMISSION

December 18,2017

1. Call to Order and Pledge of Allegiance

1. The meeting was called to order by Jackie D’Agostino at 7:29 P.M. and lead the Pledge of Allegiance for all

2. Roll Call

1. Members present-Jackie D’Agostino, Ben Rakus, Lorraine Moxey, Marge Eberz. Also present Sam Bryant, Manager and Alex Nagy Intern for borough. Absent Fran Dougherty and Peter LaMontagne

3. Approval of Minutes from Nov. 20, 2017

1. Minutes were amended then approved by Lorraine Moxy and seconded by Ben Rakus, and approved by all.

4. Old Business

1. Ordinance Update- Plant List

1. Ben shared with everyone the updated plant list which will be brought before council for approval.

2. Tamenend Trail Plantings

1. Plantings were made in November, Yellowoods might be moved to Woodlawn Ave.

3. Tree City Application Update

1. No Action- No Information

5. New Business

1. 2018 Budget Approval

1. Borough Council approved $6300 for budget

2. PECO Grant

1. Reviewed the grant proposal
2. 2 service islands

1. Post Office -Island B
2. Ash trees Island -A

3. Clearing, replanting and improving-possible Kiosk -Island B
4. Discussion on removing all Ash trees- check on them in Spring before removing them
5. Replacing trees

1. Service Road B- replace 1 for 1
2. Service Road A- replace 2 for 1

6. Work would begin in fall 2018 if we receive grant
7. Borough Council approved up to $35,000.00 for work
8. A bus stop would be on the island near the post office.
9. Lorraine Moxy made a motion to submit the Grant Proposal to PECO. Ben Rakus seconded it and all approved.

3. Any Other Business

1. A suggestion was made to possibly have a borough arborist
2. A suggestion was made to have SAVE A TREE SERVICE come to a meeting to discuss what they can do to help us. Sam Bryant agreed to contact them.

7. Adjournment

1. Ben Rakus made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Lorraine Moxy seconded the motion. All approved
