  • Create projects relating to 3D projects such as: works from observation using clay, found objects, and/or wire
  • Create projects Relating to the elements and principles of design by exploring: composition and understanding the illusion of 3D form on a 2D surface

*Will be able to identify and use elements to create own work

  • Create projects relating to individual interpretation through concrete and abstract concepts such as: visual problem solving, personal invention and imagery

*Abstraction of ideas and representations

  • Create projects relating to generating ideas, sketches, and completed work

*Interpretation and exploration lead to multi-step, in depth investigation of idea and/or subject matter.

Meaning

UNDERSTANDINGS

Students will have...

Knowledge of methods, materials and techniques unique to visual arts

Knowledge of elements of art and principles of design

Powers of observation, abstraction, invention and expression in a variety of media, materials and techniques

Knowledge of processes of creating and exhibiting their own artwork: drafts, critique, self assessment, refinement and exhibit preparation

Powers to describe, analyze and evaluate their own work and the work of others using appropriate visual arts vocabulary

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS

  1. Why do people use a variety of materials to make art?
  2. What is design?
  3. How do people convey their ideas through observation, abstraction, invention and expression?
  4. When a work of art is complete?
  5. How and why do people interpret and evaluate their own artwork and artwork of others?

Acquisition

Students will know…

  • Why and how to use a variety of art
  • What design is
  • How to convey their ideas through observation, abstraction, invention and expression
  • When a work of art is complete
  • Why and how to interpret and evaluate their own artwork and the artwork of others

Students will be skilled at…

Methods, Materials and Techniques -Students will demonstrate knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques unique to the visual arts

Elements and Principles of Design - Students will demonstrate knowledge of the elements and principles of design

Observation, Abstraction, Invention, Expression - Students will demonstrate their powers of observation, abstraction, invention and expression in a variety of media, materials and techniques.

Draft, Edit, Revise, Exhibit -Students will demonstrate knowledge of processes of creating and exhibiting their  own artwork: drafts, critique, self assessment, refinement and exhibit preparation.

Critical Response - Students will describe and analyze their own work and the work of others using appropriate visual arts vocabulary.

Stage 2 - Evidence

Evaluative Criteria

Assessment Evidence

Individual critique in class - formative

  • Teachers works one on one with student while they are working  in class

Creation of a digital portfolio-summative

All work from the class is uploaded to a digital process portfolio. This includes sketches, brainstorming, iterations, photos of products, original work and critical responses. Students identify methods, materials & techniques, elements and principles of design, use of observation, abstraction, invention and expression, drafts, and finished work in their portfolio.
