After School Supervision Policy

Al Salam School is committed to protecting and promoting the health and safety of all children. During the school day, staff on duty are responsible for the children and oversee their activity and movement in and around the school at all times.

After school supervision is a service created for parents who are unable to collect their children at the designated times at the end of each day. The school does not encourage late collection of children, however, we recognise that circumstances of certain parents may require such an option to be available.

Official School Timings:

FS1 & FS2 students start at 7:40 a.m. and finish at 12:40 p.m.

Year 1-12 students start at 7:30 a.m. and finish at 2:00 p.m.

Although the school day officially begins at 7:30, Al Salam has endeavoured to permit students to be dropped off at 7:00 am and remain safely within the school site under supervision. This has been done as a service to parents who struggle with morning traffic, but also to help ensure student attendance and punctuality is maximised.

Please note that students are not to be in the school before 7:00 am during normal school days as there are no staff on duty before this time.

Policy

The traffic difficulties in Dubai are a known factor and it is the responsibility of the parents/legal guardians to ensure that they (or their driver/helper) arrive on time to collect their child/children. In exceptional cases of late collection, parents should phone the school to inform them.

(Optional - Arranged) After School Supervision

After school supervision is for students who need a secure, supervised environment after school and who are not otherwise involved in after school clubs. Students whose parents are unable to collect them promptly at the end of the school day due to work or family obligations may use this service.

Please note that After School Supervision is an optional service. Parents have the option of putting their child/children on the bus or collecting them promptly at the end of the school day or making other alternative arrangements.

If a student is not collected promptly at the end of the school day, they will be taken to classrooms where they will be supervised. Students will have the opportunity to complete homework, read, study, play educational games, and do other quiet, constructive activities. It should be noted that after school supervision is not a substitute  for tutoring, or homework supervision, and is only an option for parents who are unable to collect their children on time.

FS children finish the school day at 12:40 p.m.

• Children in Foundation Stage finish at 12:40pm and children are expected to be collected by 1:00 p.m. If collected after 1:00 p.m., after school supervision charges will be applied.
• The charges will be as follows for all students (including those with siblings in Year 1-12):

Year 1-12 children finish their lessons at 2:00 p.m and will be outside for collection by 2:10pm.

• Students in these years are expected to be collected before 2:30pm. After this time late supervision charges will be applied.

IMPORTANT:

• We ask parents of FS students, who collect their children from their classrooms, to respect the classroom lessons and activities by not entering the hallways until the designated dismissal times.
• Please note that if anyone other than the parents will be collecting your child, please let us know by completing a form, which can be secured from the Front Office and return it to school as soon as possible.  Please make sure to notify us of responsible people we can contact if we are unable to reach you.
• Children who are participating in after school clubs finish at 3:30 and should be collected promptly. Children who are not collected on time will not be permitted to remain on site after 3:45pm as no supervision is available.

Nursery children finish the school day at 12:40 p.m.

Children in the Nursery finish at 12:40 pm and children are expected to be collected before 1:00 p.m. If collected after 1:00 p.m., optional after school supervision is available for extra charge, which is available until 3:00 p.m.

The charges will be as follows for all students (including those with siblings in Year 1-12):
