Introduction and rationale

The purpose of the Uniform at Al Salam School is to engender a sense of pride and belonging amongst the students. It also ensures a high degree of consciousness over one's appearance and a respect for learning by being smartly dressed at all times.

The uniform policy applies to all students from FS1-Year 13 and students are expected to come to school dressed in proper, clean school uniform at all times. Parents are requested to ensure all students are properly attired when coming to school. We will be taking a strict approach to uniforms throughout the academic year.

On second instance a written warning will be issued and parents will be called in, following which students will not be permitted to enter classes until the uniform policy is properly adhered to.

Guidelines for Non-Uniform Dress days

Al Salam supports opportunities for self expression and diversity and recognises that each child has their own style and preferences. During special events, school trips or occasions where students are invited to come to school wearing casual clothes, parents are requested to ensure their children are dressed modestly and respectfully. Students are expected to come dressed in conservative attire consistent with UAE culture and values.

The following are general guidelines to be followed:

Basic attire

Clothing should cover the shoulders, chest area and shins. Clothing should not be tight or see-through

Clothing with inappropriate messages or symbols are not allowed

Jewellery should be avoided, the school is not responsible for any lost items of value.

Hair, nails and makeup

Hairstyles should be moderate, in line with regular dress code. Nail-polish and makeup are prohibited unless otherwise specified for a specific event.

Where these values are not adhered to, parents will be asked to bring alternative clothing or take their child home to change before being allowed into classes.
