Video Submission Guidelines for the
Summer Camp 2021 JKA/SKDI Online Dan Exam
When to submit
Submission deadline is midnight Friday, July 9
If you submit by midnight Friday, July 2, Cynthia will review your video to ensure your techniques are sufficiently visible and give you advice on whether to retake it. She will not comment on the quality of your techniques, only visibility.
How to submit
Send as attachment or link to ctoryu@jkaboston.com
- A link can be to YouTube or a shared folder
YouTube tips:
- If you do not want others to find your YouTube link, set Visibility to Unlisted.
- Use this naming convention: <Your Name> Dan Exam – July 18, 2021
Ideally submit one recording that includes both basics and kata.
- If you must submit multiple recordings, submit them all the same way.
- Do not combine attachments and links.
Exam guidelines
See the attached documents for basics and kata guidelines. “JKA SKDI” is the official version; the other version is easier to read.
Camera angles
Ensure Examiners can clearly see your technique!
- Ensure your feet are visible the majority of the time.
- Do not record basics head-on, directly facing the camera.
- Takahashi Sensei strongly prefers that you record basics from the side.
- Only if you do not have enough room to record from the side, then you can use a left angle as shown in the image below. Try to make your front visible for most of the basics. For Shodan and Nidan exams, this means starting basics facing away from the camera.
- Kata: If recording basics from the side, then record kata head-on, facing the camera. If recording basics from an angle, keep the angle, and start the kata with your front visible to the camera.
