Boarding Handbook 2020-21

Community Service, Teams, Clubs and Activities

Community Service

The Boarding community is connected to a number of local and international service organizations to provide students with the opportunity to grow their citizenship skills and awareness of global issues. Some of these include initiatives with the Breast Cancer Society, New Circles Clothing Bank, The Children’s Peace Movement, and the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society.

Teams and Clubs

A full list of all of the teams and clubs available at Branksome Hall is available on the school Portal. Students in all grades are encouraged to join at least one team and one club or society every year to fully participate in school life and meet the requirements of the CAS program. Students are also encouraged to start a new club based on their own interests!

Evening and Weekend Activities

Boarding staff work together with other departments in the school and outside providers to develop, organize and chaperone activities both on and off campus during the week after school and on weekends. These include, but are not limited to, cultural and festive meals, supervised exercise sessions in the Athletic and Wellness Centre fitness studio and pool, day trips to visit to local universities and attractions (such as Canada’s Wonderland and Niagara Falls), cooking lessons, arts and crafts, community service activities, professional sporting events and theatre or orchestral performances in Toronto as possible with physical distancing restrictions in place.

The costs for all of these events are included in the annual Boarding Activities Fee ($750) which is charged to your child’s school account in the fall. All Boarding students are welcome and encouraged to participate in as many activities as possible. Activities actively build community within the diverse group of students living on campus, support student wellness, foster a growth mindset and embrace international mindedness. Activities also provide opportunities for students to try new things and learn more about themselves, each other, the school community, the city of Toronto and Canadian culture.
