By signing up to a swimming course with Wells Cathedral School Enterprises you agree to the Terms and Conditions laid out below.
General measures that apply to all swimming
Please make sure you read the explanations of the rules for lane swimming, 1:2:1 lessons and public swimming as well as the general measures.
Cancellation policy
We do not provide refunds unless the swimming sessions are cancelled by Wells Cathedral School Enterprises, in which case you will receive a full refund.
Valuables
Wells Cathedral School Enterprises will not accept liability for the loss of or damage to any personal effects incurred while you are on our premises. We recommend that you do not bring valuables onto the site.
Attendance policy
- Swimmers, parents, guardians, siblings or all other associates must observe Wells Cathedral School Enterprises’ entry and venue rules.
- Teaching staff and lifeguards shall retain the right to refuse admission.
- It is imperative that swimmers are on poolside no more than 5 minutes before the commencement of each lesson and should be collected from the pool no more than 5 minutes after the lesson has ended.
- No child will be released until they are collected by an appointed responsible adult. The responsible adult must remain on the venue premises for the duration of the lesson.
- No refund or “catch-up lesson” will be offered where a child fails to attend or is refused permission to attend any sessions, unless by prior agreement.
Wells Cathedral School Enterprises teaching staff
All our teachers are qualified Swim England (or equivalent) teachers. Our lifeguards are fully qualified and attend regular training as stipulated by the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK).
Behaviour policy
In the event of a swimmer, parent, guardian, sibling or other associate refusing to obey an instruction from a member of staff; behaving in an unruly manner (either verbally or physically) towards a member of staff or any other person; suspected of being under the influence of drugs/alcohol; causing damage to pool premises or any of the furniture fixtures or equipment in those premises, the swimmer shall not be permitted to continue with the lessons. Wells Cathedral School Enterprises shall then have the right to terminate the contract without further notice and without being required to offer any credit or refund to the swimmer and the swimmer shall not be accepted for any future course organised by Wells Cathedral School Enterprises.
Health policy
Wells Cathedral School Enterprises cannot accept responsibility for the medical condition or other needs of any swimmer unless a full disclosure of the condition or individual need has been made on registration. It is your responsibility or (in the case of a child swimmer) the responsibility of the parent or guardian of the swimmer to inform staff if a medical condition or need changes during any swimming sessions.
Transmission of infection
Any swimmer known to be or found to be suffering from any infectious ailment or condition will not be allowed to participate in the lesson and it is the responsibility of each swimmer or (in the case of a child swimmer) the parent or guardian of the swimmer to ensure that the swimmer is fit and well enough to participate.
Covid-19 policy
Swimmers must not attend their lesson if they have any of the following symptoms:
- A high temperature (feeling hot to touch on the chest or back - they do not need to measure their temperature)
- A new, continuous cough (coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours)
- A loss or change to their sense of smell or taste (they cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal)
- Swimmers must not attend if they are having to self-isolate due to coming into contact with someone with COVID-19 symptoms or if someone from their household had COVID-19 symptoms or is having to self-isolate
Wells Cathedral School Enterprises will not accept liability for any infection passed to a swimmer by another swimmer in the pool.
Poolside rules and regulations
- Swimmers must both arrive at the pool and leave “beach ready” as changing rooms will not be available due to COVID-19 restrictions.
- Swimwear must be suitable and appropriate.
- Toilets are available for swimmers only to use on the poolside.
- Swimmers with hair that can be tied up should wear swimming hats. Goggles are recommended.
- No person should enter the pool area without a member of Wells Cathedral School Enterprises staff being present.
- There must be no food or drink consumed within the pool area. No glass should be taken into the pool area.
- No running; no bombing and no diving (diving blocks are not to be used); no shouting; no spitting; no pushing.
- Wells Cathedral School Enterprises observes a strict no smoking policy anywhere on site.
- No outdoor shoes are to be worn on the poolside.
- There must be no recording, filming or photographic equipment including mobile phones with camera facilities used on site, unless by prior arrangement.

Parking
There is no parking available anywhere on site. Off-site parking is available in the city’s public car parks, all within a 15-minute walk of the pool:

Children
Children under the age of 8 or any swimmer under the age of 16 years who cannot swim more than 25m unaided must be accompanied in the water by a competent adult aged 16 or over.
Children aged 4-7 years: one adult per 2 children
Under 4s 1:1 adult per child
Lane Swimming
The general measures laid out above will apply as well as the below measures:
- Lane swimming will operate in single-width lanes and swimmer loads will be reduced. Capacity will be based on Swim England guidance and will be continually reviewed. We have four lanes available and currently there is a maximum of five people per lane
- All sessions must be booked and paid online in advance
- Swimmers must be able to swim lengths continually, this includes junior swimmers
- Sessions will be a maximum of 45-minutes long to allow cleaning of changing facilities
- Ensure you swim in the correct lane, details of each lane are shown below:
- Fast Lane– customer will spend most of their session swimming front crawl, and on average will complete 25 metres in under 30 seconds
- Medium Lane– this lane will be for customers who undertake a variety of strokes and will regularly complete 25 metres in 30-45 seconds
- Slow Lane– customer is likely to do the majority of swimming breaststroke, and likely to take over 45 seconds to complete 25 metres.
Lane swimming etiquette
People of different standards and abilities will be using the pool. Please respect their right to enjoy their swim. Before attending please familiarise yourself with the below rules for lane swimming sessions:
- Follow the one-way system around the poolside
- Enter and exit the pool as directed
- Follow the directional signs and move across to the appropriate side of the lane for each length
- Before pushing off at each turn, check to see if anyone faster is approaching
- Always attempt to maintain appropriate social distance between yourself and another swimmer
- Do not make physical contact with other users
- Wide strokes such as butterfly should be avoided when the lanes are busy
- Whether stopping for a rest or catching your breath after completing your swim, please be mindful that others using the lane will want to keep swimming without stopping. Keep yourself to the edge of the lane allowing others to turn at the wall, turning your head away and allowing others to maintain social distancing measures
- If you need a longer rest, please exit the pool and use the designated area on poolside
- Participants are asked to bring their own equipment, eg. Kickboards, pull buoys, training snorkels and short fins
1:2:1 Swimming Lessons
The general measures will apply as well as the below measures:
- Course fees are for a block of five 1:2:1 swimming lessons and will run from Monday to Friday between 09.00-11.00 each week.
- Lessons will be 25 minutes long and swimmers will need to leave promptly at the end of their lesson to enable the pool to be cleaned between sessions.
- All sessions must be booked and paid for in advance of the start of the course. Swimmers will not be allowed to participate in any swimming lessons until the fees are paid in full.

Public Swimming
The general measures will apply as well as the below measures:
- Public swimming will operate with a reduced bather load. Capacity will be based on Swim England guidance and will be continually reviewed. Current capacity is a maximum of 30 swimmers per session.
- All sessions must be booked online in advance
- During public/family swimming sessions lanes will not be available. For lane swimming, please book into the specific sessions available on our website.
- Sessions will be a maximum of 60-minutes long to allow cleaning of the facilities
- Where possible, we ask swimmers to arrive for their session beach ready. This will avoid the need to use the changing rooms prior to their session
- Where possible, we ask swimmers to leave from the session still in their swimwear. This will avoid the need to use the changing rooms after the session
- Please help us to keep our pool open and our swimmers safe by maintaining social distancing whilst in the pool
- When attending public swimming sessions customers are welcome to bring along your own individual fun toys for your entertainment. Items you can bring to these sessions include:
- Foam/Inflatable/Soft balls
- Noodles
- Small floats under 1 metre
- Small inflatables under 1 metre
- Dive sticks/sinkers
