Weekly Bulletin

October 15 - October 19, 2018  |  Week 7

MESSAGE FROM BAA HEADMASTER, MS. CLARK

This Tuesday, October 16 at 2:30 at 174 Ipswich Street, we break ground on the new building for Boston Arts Academy, scheduled to open for the 2021-2022 school year. This year's freshmen will be the first seniors to graduate from our new facility. Although we are all very focused on the present and our work together in the Cleveland, it's also important to recognize this important milestone in the history of the school.

This new building will enable us to create new opportunities, opportunities we have always wanted to create but until now have not had the facilities to support. This new building will increase the quantity and quality of rehearsal studios available for dance, theatre, and music. This new building will have state-of-the-art fashion and visual arts studios. This new building will have rich STEAM and technology resources. This new building will have amazing performance space: a recital hall that opens up to a rooftop terrace, a black box theatre, and a 500-seat professional theatre.

This new building, in short, will allow us to expand opportunity. In addition to expanding our student population, this new building will allow us to expand our reach beyond our student population. This new building will allow us to increase BAA’s offerings for middle school and elementary school BPS students. We imagine expanded summer programs, Saturday programs, school vacation week programs….all free for BPS students. This new building will allow us to establish BAA as a cultural institution that provides access and opportunity, particularly for diverse artists in the city of Boston. We imagine hosting artistic seasons that incorporate our students’ performances and performances by outside artists. We imagine hosting residency companies. We imagine developing a cultural use plan that privileges those artists whose work is currently underrepresented in the city of Boston, many of whom are Boston Arts Academy alumni.

I am incredibly grateful to all the members of the Boston Arts Academy community who have helped us reach this point; this moment is many years of advocacy by students, families, and supporters in the making. The award-winning Boston Arts Academy Spirituals Ensemble will be joining the Mayor, the Interim Superintendent, the Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and me Tuesday to mark the occasion. I hope we will see some of you there as well.

Have a great week!

CONGRATULATIONS AND SHOUT-OUTS
