Students will be able to independently use their learning to… RI 7: Analyze various accounts of a subject told in different mediums (e.g. a person’s life story in both print and multimedia), determining which details are emphasized or deemphasized in each account. W2: Write informative/ explanatory texts (e.g. essays, oral reports, biographical feature articles) to examine and convey complex ideas, concepts, and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content. RL 1: Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text states explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. RL 7: Analyze a critical response to a work or a body of literature (e.g. author documentary, book review); provide a summary of the argument presented and evaluate the strength of the evidence supporting it. Final Exam Question: Roger Ebert said, “Movies are like a machine that builds empathy.”
With that key word (empathy) in mind, this open response will ask you to consider any one of the movies we watched during the course of the semester (listed below). Choose a character from one of the movies that you most empathize with (empathy= to understand and share the feelings of another). How did your empathy for the character ‘build’ throughout the telling of the story/ the movie? Use specific and relevant details from the movie for support. This is graded using the BHS Open Response Rubric. | ||
