Permission must be renewed each year by completing the online Junior School Signing Privileges form.

Return Policy

Clothing may be returned for exchange if not worn or washed, and if it is in “new” condition with original packaging. Shop staff reserve the right to refuse any returns if these items cannot be sold as “new.” Returns are not permitted on personal clothing products, such as tights, socks, dancewear and swimsuits.

General Uniform Information

The Branksome Hall uniform must be purchased in The Shop, which is located in the Coach House, 2A Elm Ave., beside the Athletics and Wellness Centre. All uniform purchases must be charged to the student’s account. Please see the Uniform Price List for more information.

For your convenience, assorted sports accessories and clothing are available throughout the year. They are not required or permitted as part of the school uniform. The Athletics Department recommends that girls participating on an athletic team in grades 7–12 purchase specific items such as mouthguards and shin guards for safety reasons. The Highlander Athletic Jacket is mandatory for all team sports’ members and must be purchased from The Shop.

Please ensure all uniform items are labelled or marked with the student’s name. If you have any questions, please contact Andrea McAnally, Shop Manager. or call 416-920-6265, ext.273.

Alumnae Shop

A wide range of competitively priced school supplies may be purchased in the Alumnae Shop, along with gifts, crested memorabilia and clothing that are available throughout the year. The Alumnae Association directs the proceeds from the Alumnae Shop to student bursaries at Branksome Hall.

Second Time Shop

A selection of gently used uniforms are sold in the Second Time shop located inside the Uniform and Alumnae Shop.

The Second Time Shop accepts donated used uniform pieces to resell at 50-60% less than new uniform prices. Items donated for resale must be clean and in good condition. The Second Time Shop reserves the right to reject items unsuitable for sale.

All clothing purchased from the Second Time Shop is final sale. The Parents’ Association uses the funds from the Second Time Shop to support special school projects and events.

Parent Volunteers

The Shop welcomes volunteers to work one shift per week. Shifts are one hour while the Shop is open to students. This is a great opportunity to meet and work with students, parents and alumnae. If you are interested in assisting in The Shop,  please contact Andrea McAnally, Shop Manager. or call 416-920-6265, ext.273.

Uniform Expectations

It is important that students wear their uniform with respect and pride. We expect the following:

The Kilt or Tunic should be four inches above the knee or longer.

The Polo Shirts, both long-sleeved and short-sleeved, should not be worn with a coloured T-shirt underneath.

When students wear the Number 1 Button-down Blouse, it must be tucked into their Kilt.

Nail polish, makeup, jewellery or multi-coloured headbands are not permitted. All hair accessories can only be in the tartan colours including green, navy, black, yellow or red.

Shoes must be black leather with no ornamentation or trim and should support the foot. No ballet slippers, slip-ons or boots are allowed.

It is mandatory that black spandex shorts or boxers be worn under students’ Kilts.

Students must wear a Polo Shirt or Blouse under their green Sweater or Sweatshirt.

We appreciate parents’ assistance in reinforcing these uniform expectations. A full description of expectations is provided in the Code of Conduct.

Number One Dress

In the Junior School, Number One Dress is worn every Wednesday for assembly and for school ceremonies, special events, and some field trips. Number One Dress for Grades 3 to 5 consists of the kilt, long-sleeved blouse, tie, tie pin, green knee socks and black shoes. For students in JK to Grade 2, Number One Dress includes the tunic, long-sleeved blouse, green knee socks and black shoes.

Number One Dress for Grades 6 to 12 consists of the blazer, kilt, long-sleeved blouse, tie, tie pin, green knee socks and black shoes. It must be worn in the Senior and Middle School during all Number One Dress assemblies, school ceremonies and functions.

The Shop offers the rental of blazers ($20), kilts ($15) and ties ($8) for students who are temporarily without any of these items. Students are asked to return rentals to The Shop; otherwise, an additional replacement cost will be charged to your student account. The Junior School Office also maintains a small number of uniform items that may be borrowed by students who are not appropriately attired.

Junior School Summer Uniform

Before Thanksgiving and typically by mid-April, students in the Junior School are permitted to wear the summer uniform, consisting of a green skort with the short-sleeved polo shirt and short green socks.

The Branksome Pant

Our talented alumnae duo of Smythe Design--Andrea LENCZNER’90 and Christie SMYTHE’90--have created a beautiful, navy, fitted ankle-length pant, featuring our Hunting Stewart plaid in the leg vent. With both practicality and style in mind, the pant is made of a durable poly-cotton fabric, has pockets back and front, an adjustable waistband and is designed for easy length alterations. We will be introducing a navy sock to pair with the pant.

While the pant will not be an option for Number One dress, it can be worn with either the polo shirt or the school blouse, V-neck sweater or blazer.

Gym Uniform

JK–SK students can wear black boxers with their uniform polo. Grades 1–6, our gym uniform consists of the white gym T-shirt or the red Sweatshirt with black Shorts or black Sweatpants. Grades 7-12, our gym uniform includes the black gym T-shirt or the red Sweatshirt along with a choice of two styles of black gym Shorts. Running shoes with white socks must be worn but are not available for purchase at The Shop.

Swimming

For swim classes in JK–Grade 2, a dark-coloured sports style swimsuit is required and the school swimsuit is recommended. For Grades 3–12, the school swimsuit is mandatory. Bathing caps must be worn by all swimmers.

Dance

Dance students from JK–Grade 1 can wear their uniform polo along with the black boxers and must purchase a pair of ballet slippers, which are not available at The Shop.

For students in Grades 2-6, they must wear the BH Dance T-shirt available at The Shop and a full length black legging, which can be purchased anywhere. Junior School BH Bodysuits can be purchased for end of year performances.

For Grade 7 and up, there is a black leotard in The Shop, which is the preferred choice, which is worn with the black boxer shorts.

Team Uniforms

Athletic team uniforms are distributed in The Shop. All students are charged a rental fee on their account for the use and cleaning of the team uniform. Students must return team uniforms to The Shop; otherwise, an additional replacement cost will be charged to a student’s account.

Fit Fridays

On Fridays, students wear Fit Friday attire so they can participate in organized fitness activities. Students must wear a Branksome Fit item on top, such as a T-shirt, Sweatshirt or Athletic Jacket. They can wear Branksome athletic or yoga pants, or solid black or grey bottoms. Branksome Gym shorts are the only shorts permitted. All students must wear athletic closed-toe shoes; no boots, sandals, Birkenstocks, Uggs, etc. Please note: The only acceptable alternative to the Fit Friday Uniform is the Branksome Uniform.

Uniform Shoes

Black Oxfords, loafers and black leather running shoes that provide support and can take a shine are acceptable shoes. Unacceptable shoes include clogs, ballet flats, patent leather or suede shoes, shoes with buckles and shoes with a heel or sole of more than one inch.

Primary students

may wear black shoes with a Velcro closure or a small side buckle closure. A variety of retailers in the Toronto area sell shoes that adhere to Branksome Hall’s uniform policy.
