Bandsaw boxes can be made out of plywood, dimensional lumber (like 2x6’s) or pine boards and can be very creative and unusual. Generally, they involve making curved cuts on the bandsaw, although other saws may also be required depending on your design. The following are examples made by Tom Baines students.

There are many designs for phone amplifiers. The concept is to create a box which will amplify the speaker sound coming from your phone. There are many design ideas online. These projects don’t make a huge difference in terms of the volume, but they can be creative and interesting way to make a functional ‘phone stand’. Another possibility is a phone or tablet stand without the amplifier feature.
There are lots of possibilities for this project including using plywood or pine wood, using a router, and mitre saw. Finishing options include doing some wood burning.
Marquetry is using wood veneer to create patterns. For this project, you will cover a piece of plywood with veneer. You will be using a vacuum bag to glue the veneer to the plywood. You will create a wooden frame for the veneering piece and can optionally add a clock mechanism.
Wood creation that counts up in the binary number system (1, 2, 3…).

A few options here including an all wood puzzle and (perhaps) a dynamic model involving wood, beads, and acrylic panels.
The example shown is too large for what you could make. However, the concept is the same. Make nice mitre (angle) cuts to create an interesting ‘shelf’ or display - or even just as a decoration unto itself. Using the mitre saw and probably pine boards or possibly plywood.
Small wooden box with a hinged lid.

Design your own Calgary Tower model. You will start with a ‘blank’ made up of pine boards or dimensional lumber stacked to give you the length you want. Then shape the tower using the wood lathe and finish with a wooden base.

Lots of creative possibilities. The following are all made by Tom Baines students:
Lots of options including doing wooden Tap and Die (threading) and using the Wood Lathe.
Create a wooden wall decoration as a symbol such as the ‘Deathly Hallows’ symbol from Harry Potter fame.
Interesting looking project idea that is fairly simple in terms of the wood requirements (2x2 cubes) but looks tricky to assemble?
