Boarding Handbook 2020-21

Out-of-City Leaves and University Visits

While we are mandated to follow physical distancing measures by our health and government officials, we may not be able to allow students to attend physical university campus visits. We will continue to update our policies as the COVID-19 pandemic evolves.

Once restrictions on physical distancing are lifted:

If a student is leaving Toronto for any reason (e.g. university campus visit, see below), a written letter of permission, including the student’s destination, dates and mode of transportation, must be sent to the Director, Boarding to give consent for unaccompanied student travel. For overnight trips, accommodations and a contact phone number must also be provided.

Boarding students who wish to visit universities must inform the Director of Boarding. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule the interview and visit the university with the support of their Guidance Counsellor, as needed. The student may visit universities when the following criteria are met:

Confirmation from university of invitation (if applicable).

Contact information of host (address and phone number).

Travel details—flight, train, taxi, etc.

Permission from parents for travel given in writing, acknowledging Branksome Hall is not responsible for safety and well-being of the student during this visit.

Please note that whenever possible, students are encouraged to schedule university visits when they can be accompanied by their family and when school is not in session. If the student is travelling internationally, it is the responsibility of the student and her family to ensure all travel documents and visas are current and valid.
