Daily Routines

The academic school day runs from 8:25 a.m.–3:35 p.m. Grade 7s have a daily homeroom period from 3:35–3:45 p.m. every day until the Easter long weekend.

Teachers will take attendance every period. Tests for Grade 9-12 students are held only in Periods 1 and 4. We encourage students to bring a nutritious snack to eat and water to drink between Periods 1 and 2. Food is not allowed in the Resource Centre.

Late Start Days

Every Wednesday, students in Grades 7–12 start classes at 9:30 a.m. The Resource Centre opens at 7:30 a.m. (as usual). Middle School students who arrive early will be supervised.

Supervision

The Senior School is open and staffed from 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. each day. Students must be picked up by 5:30 p.m.

The Middle School is staffed daily from 7:45 a.m.–4:45 p.m. Grade 7 and 8 students should not arrive at school before 7:45 a.m.

There is no adult supervision in 10 Elm Avenue after 5:30 p.m. or in the Middle School after 4:45 p.m., except in the Resource Centre, which is open 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. on Monday to Friday.

Middle School students may work in the Resource Centre but should be picked up no later than 5:30 p.m. Students must remain inside the school as access to the buildings via their security cards ends at 6:00 p.m. Parents should pick up students in front of 10 Elm Avenue; please do not drive to the Middle School.

AWC & HUB

Students may eat lunches brought from home or purchase food items at the school in the Grade 9/10 Hub (10 Elm Ave) during lunch periods, or at the Christie-Pepall Dining Hall, located in the AWC. The Christie-Pepall Dining Hall is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Students must use their swipe cards to purchase meals and snacks. Dinner is at 5:30 p.m. for Boarding students and for students staying to work in the library or for evening programs. The AWC is open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. daily.

Students may eat lunch in the Grade 9/10 Hub, the Rotunda, the Middle School lounges (Grades 7 and 8), or in other designated areas at 10 Elm Avenue. Students are expected to clean up after they have eaten their lunch, recycle responsibly and leave the school’s public eating areas clean and tidy. Grade 7 and 8 students are not permitted to leave the school property at lunch time or at any time during the school day. Grade 9–12 students may leave the school property at lunch time but must be back in good time for Period 3 classes. Diploma 1 (DP1) and Diploma 2 (DP2) students may leave campus during their spares. Any Grade 9–12 student leaving campus must sign out when leaving, and sign back in when returning for her next class or community activity (such as Grade Level Collaboration).

Student Security Cards

Students in Grades 7–12 are issued a photo identification security card; it is considered to be a required part of the uniform. In addition to giving students access to the school’s buildings, the cards also serve as student library and meal cards. Students must present their security card to make a purchase at the Uniform and Alumnae Shop, the Hub or the Christie-Pepall Dining Hall. Cards must also be shown as identification in the Resource Centre. A student number without the card is not acceptable. Students are advised to keep their student number and locker combinations confidential.

Students must use their security cards to enter the overpass. No student may cross Mount Pleasant at street level at any time of day. Doing so will result in the student receiving a TRAC (time for reflection and connection). All new students will be issued their security cards within the first few days of school; there is no charge for this first card. Should the card need to be replaced due to loss or avoidable damage, a fee of $25 will be charged to the student’s account. The form to request a new card can be found under Senior or Middle School Resources, on the Portal.
