Weekly Bulletin

December 3 - December 7, 2018  |  Week 14

MESSAGE FROM BAA HEADMASTER, MS. CLARK

On Thursday afternoon of this week, several members of the Fields Corner community, including community leaders and business owners, will be visiting BAA. I'm very excited about this Open House, and I look forward to welcoming our neighbors.

We are very grateful for the warm welcome we have received from the Fields Corner community. Before we moved, we were hosted at meetings by the Fields Corner Civic Association. Several of the neighbors were very helpful when we moved in--orienting us to the neighborhood, helping us install equipment, and helping us physically move materials. Our students have been invited to perform at local cafes, we have been appreciated for the community service students have done in the neighborhood, and there are several education and arts organizations in the area that are interested in forming partnerships.

We always talk to students about community with social responsibility; that's a value we can clearly see we share with our new neighbors. We are proud to now be a part of the Fields Corner community.

Have a great week!

CONGRATULATIONS AND SHOUT-OUTS

Congratulations to Danny Rivera and Laren England who performed an original song at Thursday’s Tree Lighting in Faneuil Hall. Check out a video of their performance here!

Shout out and HUGE thank you to the following students who have been staying after school and putting in TONS of hard work helping the theatre department assemble the new Black Box. These students did extremely difficult physical work, for many hours, did it safely, communicated with each other, stayed patient, and had a good time: Ashley Alexandre, Jonah Barricklo, Samil Battenfeld, Khalil Coates, Aaliyah Colon, Lisbeth Diaz, Tanairis Diaz, Jacob Downey, Jah’eelin Gonzalez, Emanhi Laboy, Cady Malkemes (FT major), Atiana Olmo (Music major), Liat Rimoni, Avery Vanover (VA major).

Congratulations to the following students who performed at BAA’s inaugural Music Showcase at homestead.cafe in Fields Corner: Travis Ambroise, Reggie Anderson, Angelina Botticelli, Anthony Carballo-Soto, Kiesha Dorneval, Shavell Harris, and Laura Lopez-Finet. They were well prepared, professional, and soulful. The three owners of the cafe were all present, and were blown away by everything they saw. BAA students now a have a standing invitation to home.stead’s monthly open mic of music and poetry. Job well done!

Congratulations to the following students for participating in Friday’s Community Poetry Slam: Vienna Conyngham, Cristina Fuentes, Megan Panyere, Caileigh Phillips, Dominic Piscopo, Makayla Rene, and Maya Thompson.

Shout out to Yairy Medina-Matos who was the Front Porch Arts Collective’s first ever student designer through their newly formed mentorship program. As assistant costume designer she was extremely professional, and did an amazing job recreating a royal cape and working backstage.

Congratulations to senior dancer majors and the dance department for Senior Dance Project performances that were full of vision and emotion, and backed by strong technique and impressive growth of individual dancers.

Have someone(s) to congratulate or shout out? Please email Ms. Booth --> tbooth@bostonartsacademy.org (be sure to include name and reason for the shout out)

The Boston Arts Academy Foundation is an independent, registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was established in 1999 to raise essential funds for the school. Each year, the BAA Foundation raises between 35% and 40% of the school’s budget from private sources. The BAA Foundation helps bridge the gap between the school’s allocation from the Boston Public Schools, and the true cost of a high-quality education that is both arts-intensive and college preparatory. Support from foundations, corporations, and individual donors is critical to the school’s ability to offer a comprehensive arts and academic education. Without such support, our city’s young people, living in one of the cultural capitals of the world, would not be able to attend a public arts high school. You can make a gift, or establish a monthly recurring gift, today at bostonartsacademy.org/givetobaa.
