The Ascendant

Accents: Time

Primary Eye: Arcanorum

Qualifier: “Follower of The Ascendant”

Description

Linred, The Ascendant, is unique among the deities of the Tempest, in that they hail not from divine blood, but from beyond the horizon of time, reaching back through our future, their history, to elevate the past into divinity. Offering immortality to the truly faithful, “They That Free The Soul” asks that the faithful abhor violence and death, seeking to prolong the lives of all creation.

Where possible, devotees to the Ascendant are pacifistic, opting to avoid violent confrontation, however, this is not an absolute, and devotees will act as necessity dictates in the defense of many lives. Similarly, the devotees of the Ascendant are notably generous with wealth and resources, opting to improve the lives of those around them, rather than hoarding wealth. Ascendants can often be found leading efforts to improve community resources, and taking on leadership roles to organize the populace against violent incursions.

Tenets of The Devoted

Note: If you purchased one or more abilities in this Religion, and you knowingly break one of the tenets of the Religion, you will have all powers granted by this religion revoked until the end of the event (or longer), and may be subject to a redemption or atonement quest to regain these powers, subject to the discretion of the Plot Team.

Qualifier

All adherents of this religion gain the Qualifier: Follower of The Ascendant. This means that the character will become targets of effects with that qualifier for as long as they maintain devotion to this religion. These effects will be both positive and negative, so be sure to be aware of the Calls being made around you.

For Example: Toric, devoted to The Ascendant is fighting on the line during an incursion of undead. Behind them is a cleric of his order, Killian. Killian prays to their shared god and receives a boon in the form of “By My Voice, Heal 5 to Follower of The Ascendant by Radiance”. Toric heard this call, and is devoted to the religion, and so is healed. Meanwhile, Toric’s line companion, Juris, is not a member of the church, but heard the call. They, however, not being a devotee, are not affected by the call.

Elsewhere, the undead invasion is not without its necromancer, Yorric. Yorric likewise calls out to their deity, and casts that maleficent gaze upon his foes: “By My Voice, Wounding 4 to Follower of The Ascendant By Malice”. As before, Toric, (and his cleric friend) are affected by this call, but his linemate Juris is not.

Repudiate Death [Devotion][Adept] - 4 CP

Prerequisite: One Adept Spell or Advanced Power

“We deny the most dangerous, the most cunning, and most devious force in the planes: Death itself. It is a most implacable foe, nipping at the heels of family, friends, and foe alike. Only with the purest of dedication may we win this ceaseless war, and bring to an end the ravages of Death.”

Repudiate Death [Devotion][Adept]

Incantation: “I call  my faith, divine and right, I wield and shape creation’s light.

I draw my strength from eternal life. Gather now within my hand, to negate death’s strife.”

Call: “Grant Life by Time”

Target: Individual                Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: Touch                        Refresh: Long Rest, Spell

Accent: Time                        Effect: Grant Life

This powerful spell unwinds a corpse's Fate, returning it to the state prior to death. If the target is a corpse, it will bring it back to life with 1 Life Point. This spell can only be used to bring one corpse back from the dead once per Long Rest.

The first time this spell is cast each long rest it will not consume a spell slot.

Temporal Awareness [Devotion] - 2 CP

Prerequisite: One Basic Power or Novice Spell

“The connection with the Ascendant was mind-altering in a way that Kalin never considered. New options unfolded before her, laid out as pathways stretching out to the horizon. Her own death, once an immutable fact of her existence, was now more of a… guideline, and one that could be avoided.”

Name: Temporal Awareness [Devotion]

Incantation: None

Call: “Temporal Awareness”, “Obey to Spirit: Tell me what the current Day is.”

Target: Self                        Duration: Instantaneous

Delivery: None                        Refresh: Focus Quick 100

Accent: Time                        Effect: Special

This ability draws upon the faithful’s connection with the Ascendant, and gives them the ability to perceive time in a way that is often shrouded from others. This ability grants the following abilities:

  • The character gains the Carnal Creature perk if they did not already have it.
  • The character gains the Hard to Kill perk if they did not already have it.
  • The character may carry an in-game pocket watch. This watch is unshatterable and unable to be taken from the character. Any attempt to remove the watch from the character may be countered with the Call “Counter: Temporal Awareness.” This ability may be used while slept, dying or dead. The pocketwatch may not be altered by in-game means, such as Enchanting.
  • Should the faithful be convinced they have been shifted in time, knocked out for a long period, or other situation where they might have lost track of time they may reorient themselves by concentrating for a Focus Quick 100. Once complete, the faithful may seek out a nearby marshaling spirit to ask “Obey to Spirit: Tell me what the current Day is.” The Spirit will answer as accurately as they can.
