Parent & Student Handbook
Welcome to Morrison Academy Taipei’s (MAT’s) Middle School Handbook. The purpose of this online handbook is to provide key information for MAT parents and students. It provides an overview of our program and can also be used as a resource for looking up specific details throughout the year. The handbook is online-only in order to offer additional search functions and convenient cross-linking as well as allowing us to be better environmental and financial stewards. If you can not find the information you need, please contact the MAT office, our Middle School Team Leader Miss Adrienne Ruegg, or our Principal Mr. Zachary Sawyer.
We welcome you to join us as we explore the school wide theme Indescribable this year using the theme verse: Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift. 2 Corinthians 9:15 (NIV).

Morrison Academy Taipei is a Christian international school founded and maintained for the purpose of supporting missionary efforts in Taiwan. It is part of the four campus Morrison Academy system. We hope you are able to find the information you need in this handbook and encourage you to contact us if you have questions.
At MAT we seek to partner with parents to provide an academic, social, and spiritual experience that meets the needs of our admitted students. Please see Morrison’s admissions web pages if you have additional questions about our selection and placement process.
We partner with parents to ensure the best possible experience for your children. Regular and engaged attendance is necessary to take full advantage of our program. We work very hard to minimize the impact of necessary absences, but the in-class experience with our qualified and caring staff cannot be fully replicated with just assignments.
In our lives together it is essential that all stakeholders seek to engage in open, honest, and clear communication and do their part to be adequately informed. Please help us serve you better by reading all communications from MAT staff, and please communicate directly with us whenever you have a question or concern.
MAT works intentionally and carefully to ensure the well being and safety of students entrusted to our care. That includes spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and psychological health as we seek to nurture our students. Cooperative partnership with students, parents, and community members is essential to maintaining a safe and secure environment.
In our lives together we cultivate respect towards others, authority, our beliefs, and ourselves. Our guidelines help us to live in community in healthy and God honoring ways by being responsible, respectful, and engaged.
The ultimate purpose of Morrison Academy is to facilitate our students’ spiritual, intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development so that they can glorify God. This growth comes from integrating Biblical truth with educational knowledge and applying this interrelationship consistently throughout a lifetime (Morrison Purpose Statement). Our curriculum and instructional strategies are woven into the very fabric of what it means to be a Christian school. We provide differentiated rigor and opportunity so students can glorify Him with their best efforts. We seek to honor diverse talents and our God given creativity through art, music, sports, and more. We are consistently working to provide for students well being and to prepare them for life beyond Morrison.
In pursuit of a high quality, effective educational experience, Morrison Academy strives to structure student learning of the curriculum around a standards-based approach. Student learning is the measure of success. Every student learns and strives to meet or exceed unit learning targets within their God given ability. There is an emphasis on application of learning and knowledge through a biblical perspective or lens (SBG Handbook).
The purpose of grading is to describe how well students have achieved specific learning targets based on evidence gathered from an assignment, assessment, or other demonstration of learning. Grades are intended to inform parents, students, and others about learning successes and to guide improvements when needed (Morrison Grading Handbook). Graduation requirements and course options are determined at the Morrison system level to meet the unique needs our student population. Our guidance office and staff provide academic counseling for our program and for college admissions.
Our program at MAT is about much more than what goes on in the classroom. Our events and programs provide opportunities for students to grow personally and put into practice the lessons learned in our curriculum. While this alphabetical list does not include all events at MAT, the following are some of the highlights throughout the school year.
MAT works intentionally to ensure the safety and security of students entrusted to our care. Cooperative partnership with students, parents, and community members is essential to maintaining a safe and secure environment. We also seek to be the best possible stewards of the resources and facility God has blesses us with.
