The purpose of Summer Camp is to struggle by strenuous

effort for the betterment of manners and technique

and to cultivate friendship among participants.

1. PARTICIPATION FEE (US Dollars)

*Discount for attending all six classes!

  $20 off for White/Green/Brown Belts

  $30 off for Black Belts

2. REGISTRATION - CLOSED Wednesday, June 30th

All participants must register online by completing this form:

        Attendance will be taken at each class to ensure registration matches  your payment.

3. PAYMENT

• Personal check, bank check, or money order is also possible for payment

• Personal checks will not be accepted after June 30

• If you are also taking a Dan exam or participating in the Qualifications Seminars and/or tests, please make those as separate additional payments

4. DAN EXAMINATIONS:        Sunday, July 18  (see Camp Schedule)

• Applicants must:

• have permission from their instructor
• hold a current JKA Passport or membership card
• attend at least 3 camp classes

Review this JKA SKDI Dan Exam Form carefully.

• Special notes about entering your name in the application:

• Your combined FIRST and LAST name can be at most 17 characters to fit on the diploma
• Please use the preferred convention of your country  / culture as you want it to appear sequentially on your exam certificate if you pass

• For example, as the directions above state, most Americans and many Europeans may use FIRST name in the first field and their LAST (family) name in the second field.  In such cases the English convention of FIRST NAME then LAST NAME, for example JOHN SMITH, would be entered as JOHN in the first field and SMITH in the second field.
• However, if your country / culture’s tradition is to put your family name before your given name you may enter that however you prefer.  For example, most Japanese and other Asian countries or cultures might put their family name in the first field and their given name in the second field.

Dan Exam Video Submissions 

• Allowed only for Shodan, Nidan, and Sandan exams
• Submit to ctoryu@jkaboston.com by Friday, July 9th
• If you submit by Friday, July 2nd, Cynthia will review your video to ensure your techniques are sufficiently visible for Examiners to give you a fair evaluation. She will let you know if you should resubmit. She will not comment on the quality of your techniques, only the visibility.

5. JKA QUALIFICATIONS COURSE (for SKDI members only)

This course is for SKDI instructors and students who are Nidan and above.

The following examinations are being offered at this year’s camp:

• Judge D and C
• Instructor D, C, and B
• Examiner D and C

Application:  **NEW** (added 6/16/21)

• To apply for the Qualifications Seminar and corresponding tests for Judge, Examiner, and/or Instructor you must fill out this application FORM

Fees for Qualifications

• Paid Before Camp

• Participation Fee:  $100 [due when registering for camp]
• Examination Fee:  $50 for 1 exam, $100 for 2 or 3 exams

• Pay after passing qualification exam

• Registration Fee:   $55 or $110 or $210, depending on the exam
• Registration fee may change based on USD to JPY exchange rate.

If you plan to take the JKA Qualifications Course at Summer Camp, which is for SKDI instructors and students who are Nidan and above, then you should review the manuals before camp.

6. ZOOM GUIDELINES

Social Media / Reproduction:  any and all reproductions are expressly forbidden.  This includes still image photos, screenshot,  and video.  No camp content may be posted online, on social media, or otherwise digitally shared.

Class Etiquette and Zoom Expectations:

• Participants will be muted by default
• Participants will be allowed unmute for questions at the instructor's discretion
• Chat will be disabled by default
• Please modify your zoom display name to this format:  “ FIRST NAME Dojo ”
• Please angle your camera to show from at least your knees to head  

Zoom Support:

• We recommend joining classes via computer with webcam, but please join however you can
• Please check which version of Zoom you have in advance and update to the newest version
• Because all participants will be muted, “Speaker View” will optimize your view of the instructor, especially on smaller devices.  For those with larger screens or who enjoy a feeling of training together, “Gallery View” will also work.  Finally, going “Full Screen” can maximize your view.
