We are learning பூச்சூட்டல் / Poochoottal in this Paksham #5. In these 10 paasurams, Periyazhwar offers the following flowers and shrubs to ShrimanNarayanan.
- செண்பகம் / Shenbagam (Champaka)
- மல்லிகை / Malligai (Jasmine)
- தமநகம் / Damanagam (Davana, repeated twice)
- பாதிரி / Paathiri (Patala)
- மரு / Maru (Marvaka)
- செங்கழுநீர் / Sengazhuneer (Red water Lilly)
- புன்னை / Punnai (Punnaga)
- குருக்கத்தி / Kurukkaththi (Madhavi)
- இருவாட்சி / Iruvaatchi (another kind of Jasmine)
- கருமுகை / Karumugai (Mano Ranjitham)
As announced in our class, adiyen started preparing a document with pictures and details of these, to share with you all. One of our students even had sent nice pictures of some of these flowers via WhatsApp, which gave adiyen a good start. But after doing some internet searches, adiyen decided not to reinvent the wheel, because one Srimani G. Venkataraman has already written a nice blog having all details of these flowers and shrubs. Periyazhwar doesn’t talk about #11 Kadir Pachai written in that blog, so we can ignore that. When Azhwar says “Pachai Damanahattodu”, as per vyakyanam it simply means “fresh Damanaham”.
