______        Submit Application for Admission to OSU’s Professional Education Unit @http://tinyurl.com/osuprofedapp (must apply first semester)

______        Gain and Retain Full Admission to OSU’s Professional Education Unit (See OSU’s Office of Professional Education    

http://www.okstate.edu/peu)

______        Maintain a 2.75 Overall Cumulative Retention GPA; for graduate students this includes all undergraduate and

graduate coursework

______        Submit a copy of all transcripts (undergraduate & graduate) to 325 Willard

______        Submit a copy of the above Oklahoma Teaching Certificate to 325 Willard

______        Maintain Graduate College Academic Standing Minimum Grade Requirements per the current OSU catalog.

______        Successfully complete the Professional Portfolio Sub 1 with Plan of Study and Submission 2 following Comprehensive Exams                          

______        Pass the Reading Specialist Oklahoma Subject Area Test (sign up at http://www.ceoe.nesinc.com)

______        Hold a Master of Science degree from OSU in Teaching Learning and Leadership with an option in Reading Specialist (includes the

coursework listed below) OR

______        Hold a Master’s degree in another area or from an accredited institution and complete the following coursework:

Status        Professional Education Requirements (9 hours needed: 2.50 GPA with no grade below “C”)

______        Curriculum Issues:  CIED 5053 ®

______        Educational Advocacy and Leadership: CIED 5813 ®

______        Measurement or Research: CIED 5073, REMS 5013, or SCFD 5913

Status        Specialization Requirements (21 hours needed: 2.50 GPA with no grade below “C”)

______        Language Arts in the Curriculum: CIED 5143

______        Advanced Children’s Literature : CIED 5153

______        Literacy Instruction in the Primary Grades: CIED 5423 ®

______        Reading and Writing in the Content Area: CIED 5433

______        Reading Assessment and Instruction: CIED 5463 (must include a practicum)

______        Practicum in Reading Instruction:  CIED 5523

______        Literacy Leadership & Coaching: CIED 5553 (includes field experience)

______        Total Hours Needed
