MESSAGE FROM BAA HEADMASTER, MS. CLARK |
This upcoming Saturday, December 2 from 9am-2pm about 20 Boston Arts Academy students will be taking on an important leadership role at Boston Arts Academy: They will go through training with The Center for Restorative Justice out of Suffolk University to be Circle Keepers Circle practice is part of BAA's larger commitment to Restorative Justice. The Center defines Restorative Justice this way: "Restorative practices – including circles [...] -- provide structured processes for organizing effective group communication, building relationships, making decisions and resolving conflicts. Restorative practices support youth and adults to bring forward their 'best self' and offer a space where they can learn and practice value-based behavior." We use circle practice in every aspect of our school: in our classrooms, in our community meetings, in mediations, and in leadership structures. Every student and staff member has been trained to be in a circle; these students are making an additional investment of their time and energy to "keep" circle practice integral to our community. I am very proud of these students and of their vision with integrity. Students who are interested but have not yet been invited are welcome to sign up with Ms. Bayer. Have a great week! |

Congratulations to Siobhan Hayes-Keane for her acceptance to Ithaca College with the $14,000 Flora Brown Award! Congratulations to Jonah Barricklo, Diane Thai, Christian Kinney, Exaloubens Dorceus, Jonathan Lopez, Gianna Guthrie, Alexis Maxwell, Teara Cowan, and Giovanni Mendez. They are ⅓ of the students cast for a PSA that focuses on drug prevention produced by the Boston Public Health Commission; written and directed by Wyatt Jackson. The feedback from the shoot was beyond phenomenal in terms of how the students not only performed but conducted themselves as artists. More shout outs to come when the rest of the cast shoot their scenes! |

Juniors and Seniors! In order to support the Humanities 3 Benchmark Paper, the library will be set aside for juniors and seniors only the following dates/times: Monday, November 27th - 3-4pm library for juniors and seniors only Monday, November 27th & Tuesday, November 28th - LUNCH library for juniors and seniors only There will be writing tutors during the afternoon times. REMINDER TO ALL INVITED STUDENTS: Student Circle Training on Saturday, December 2nd from 9am-2pm at Boston Arts Academy. The Music Department is holding a Lunchtime Concert Series where various groups will perform during the second half of lunch on the first floor. National Honor Society will meet on Thursday, November 30th in room 216 during lunch. MFA TEEN CAFE: “Mask Off”. How can we encourage our peers to become their most authentic selves? Join us for MASK OFF a space to acknowledge and celebrate who we truly are without social pressure(s). Best of all, come socialize and enjoy free food. Join us for this amazing event where you will be able to unmask yourself and show your true self! Have questions about MFA TEEN CAFE: Mask Off? Contact The Teen Arts Council. This event is free and includes: a tour of the Takashi Murakami exhibit, art-making activities, teen performances, and a special guest poet. WHEN: December 1, 2017 TIME: 5:30-8:30pm LOCATION: 465 Huntington Avenue RSVP: https://mfateencafemaskoff.eventbrite.com Students thinking about taking college courses (dual enrollment) in the spring should plan to attend a lunch meeting on Thursday, December 7th in the Assembly Hall. They will meet with Ms. Bernier, ProArts Consortium director or Ms. Bautista, Academic Dean, to determine which college and courses are the best fit. Juniors and Seniors can take classes at the institutions below. The prerequisite is either 3.0 or a placement test, depending on the institution. Most deadlines are December 13th or 15th for the spring semester.

JUNIORS: Consider applying to SCS Noonan Scholars, a FREE 6-week college prep summer program. Information sessions will be held on Monday, November 20th at 5:30pm and Wednesday, December 6th at 5:30pm at 50 Milk Street. Attention SENIORS: Your recommendation request folders are due to your recommenders by Friday, December 1st at the latest. Your folder should include all of the materials that were discussed at the Rec Request Info Session. The mobile eye clinic is coming back to BAA! In 2016, 2020, an on-site eye doctor providing eye exams for students from a state-of-the-art mobile clinic, launched a pilot partnership to service the Boston Public School District with eye exams and free corrective eyewear. We are pleased to inform you that 2020 will be coming back to Boston Arts Academy on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Families who would like for their student to receive this service, please complete this consent form and return it to Nurse Jocelyne.
