Student Packing Checklists

Required Items — What You Will Need on Campus

Cell phone with a local number (the number needs to be provided to the Boarding staff upon arrival)

Toiletries including bath robe, two bath towels, toothbrush, shampoo, hairdryer, soap and plastic flip-flops (beach sandals) to wear in the bathrooms and shower areas

Laundry basket/hamper for bedroom (laundry soap provided)

At least one set (2 is preferred) of bed linens including a fitted bed sheet, pillow case, and duvet cover, twin mattress size.

Clothes hangers for the closet

Alarm clock (separate from your cell phone)

Students in Grades 9-12 need to have a Texas Instruments TI-84+ calculator with them in every Math class. Information can be found here.

Personal Protection Equipment (PPE): Students are required to bring their own washable, non-medical mask to wear for off-campus outings when physical distancing is not possible. A minimum of five masks is recommended.

Please aim to purchase as many of the items as possible before arrival to campus. You may want to have online shopping delivered to campus. We will have opportunities to go shopping throughout the year for students to purchase necessary seasonal items.

Provided Items

Keys to the bedroom and a lock box for storing personal valuables (items or cash valued over $200 must be stored in the Boarding office safe). The school cannot be responsible for the loss or damage of personal belongings.

A school network connection to the Internet

One set of bed linens including a mattress cover, fitted bed sheet, pillow, duvet and duvet cover, are provided by the school. Many students, however, like to bring their own. If so, you will need to have two sets of linens as there will be mandatory weekly laundry service.

A desk with a chair and desk lamp

A corkboard for posting personal items/pictures

Optional Extras
Some students choose to bring the following:

Sports equipment such as tennis/badminton racquet, snowboard, skis

Art supplies

Musical instrument

An extra pillow, mattress topper and a small area rug for added comfort

An international electrical adapter

An external hard drive to back up computer files

If you choose, you may bring one extra set of bed linens (twin mattress size). There will be a mandatory weekly laundry service for bed linens so it is necessary to have two sets.

Boarding Common Areas Contain the Following:

Printers for student use, phones for local calls, televisions with digital cable, Netflix, Disney+, DVD players, video game systems, and lots of board games and craft supplies for entertainment

Kitchenettes in each house, supplied with individually portioned snack food

Washing machines and dryers, laundry soap, dryer sheets, laundry baskets, irons and ironing boards

Dress Code

Casual clothing for when the student is not in uniform may reflect the student’s individual style but must also be clean, in good condition, weather appropriate and modest in design. Revealing clothing or pajamas are not acceptable in the Christie-Pepall Dining Hall or outside the Boarding Houses. All clothing and other belongings need to be clearly and permanently labelled with your child’s name. The following clothing list is a guideline that should assist in packing and helping to prepare students for seasonal temperature changes.

School Uniform

The school uniform has been changed for the 2020-21 school year. Although students are not required to have a blazer, tie or kilt this year, there are still uniform requirements that students must follow as outlined below. We require our students to attend face-to-face classes in freshly laundered clothes, and students must carry their assigned security card at all times. Students and parents may make school uniform purchases via an online uniform shop that will be available ahead of school opening.

Clothing Packing Checklist

Underwear, socks, and pajamas

Casual clothes (including blue jeans) are acceptable for evening, dinner and weekends

Warm sweaters and sweatshirts for layering

One warm robe (housecoat) and bedroom slippers

Comfortable shoes for after school and evenings

The school-issued dance leotard or swimsuit will be required for students participating in dance or swim. Students may wear their own one-piece swimsuit to free-swim (outside class time).

Two outfits for special occasions (e.g. slacks, skirts, blouses, sweaters and/or a dress)

Outerwear

Temperatures can be very cold during the winter (-25 °C) and proper winter clothing is essential. There will be opportunities for students to purchase outerwear with Boarding staff.

Some suggestions:

One winter jacket rated to at least -20 °C, snow boots, warm gloves/mittens, hat and scarf

Fleece sweater, thermal layers, warm fleece/wool socks

Rainwear including a waterproof jacket and waterproof pants, umbrella and footwear

Sun hat or baseball cap, sunscreen

It is expected that students dress appropriately for the weather; for example, proper footwear, not sandals, in the rain or snow. A winter coat must be worn every time students leave the Boarding building during the winter months.
