December 11 - December 15, 2017  |  Week 16

MESSAGE FROM BAA HEADMASTER, MS. CLARK

At Boston Arts Academy we prepare our students to be artists...and we also prepare them as audience members. We know that our students will be important members of the artistic community, both as performers and producers of art and as arts supporters. That's why weeks such as next week, where we have the opportunity to attend Winterfest together on Wednesday 12/20, are so important. To that end, seminar teachers will be going over the following audience behavior guidelines before the performance:

  • Please put all cell phones and other electronic devices away and off or on silent.
  • Be courteous during the performance: refrain from conversation or phone activity. Try to stay in the moment and enjoy all the great work!
  • Know when to applaud: If it’s classical music: Polite applause after the piece, not after a movement (which is a portion of a piece). If it’s jazz music: Applause after a solo is customary.
  • Refrain from shout-outs. As much as you feel like it is supportive, it is actually really distracting to the performers. Please don’t do it, even if others are doing it.

All of the arts majors' work will be represented at Winterfest this year, and our goal is for our community to come together before break on a positive, supportive note.

Have a great week!
